Disappointing sewing machine

This machine has been very frustrating. The manual is inadequate and doesn't help troubleshoot. The stitching is inconsistent and I've been very displeased trying to get any pleasant results. The information on using this machine is nowhere to be found. I definitely would not recommend this machine.

Needle Position Does Not Work

Brand new machine, but the needle will only stay on the left. The needle position dial does not seem to work. This means that there are stitches I cannot use and I can only use one side of the zipper foot.

The Singer model HD6380 Heavy Duty sewing machine needle position for a straight stitch can be adjusted two ways on our Heavy Duty machines. The first way uses the needle position dial. The second way uses the stitch width dial. To center your needle, your needle position dial needs to be set to center position and your stitch width dial needs to be set to “0”. The needle position dial will not function unless the width dial is on “0”.

I had to return the machine due to the power cord did not work, the machine ran hard, and something inside was jingling. I was so bummed because I was looking forward to this being the first machine I purchased for myself.

Impressive!

My previous computerized machine (different brand) started causing me grief (still after taking it to be repaired/tuned twice!)-therefore I was stuck with half a quilt top and no reliable machine. I had a hard time deciding on what Singer brand-I initially was looking at the computerized heavy duty version but was disappointed in the amount of bad reviews it had...I went to my local Singer dealer and saw this beauty and decided to give it a try.
BEST MONEY I'VE SPENT so far on a machine rather than repairs... just glad to get going again on my project!

not the best machine for quilting

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] There are a lot of pros and cons and a couple of red flags for this machine. I'm a quiltmaker and I was very pleased that the machine came with an extension table. The pressure on the foot can be adjusted, the light is excellent and it goes FAST. The feed dogs retract. These are the good things. Cons. It's extremely light. I had to put shelf liner under it to keep it in place. There are only3 needle positions. In order to get an accurate 1/4 in. seam I had to use a foot that didn't come with the machine. There is no needle down option nor is there a speed control. If you are a newbie, the speed may be a problem. Doing free motion quilting with these 2 things are a real problem. The red flags for me...Quilting is messy for a machine. After every quilt I clean out where the bobbin case is and change the needle for my next project. I was unable to remove the bobbin holder so couldn't remove debris under it. While free motion quilting, I needed to have the tension set at the highest end to get correct tension on the stitches. Down the road if cleaning isn't possible, the tension will need to be even tighter which will not happen. Singer sent this to me for an honest review. Since I've had it I've made 2 quilt tops and quilted 2 quilts. I'm sorry to say this is not the machine for me.

Questionable manual

I bought this item just yesterday, at a Joann store, I have always trusted the “Singer” brand as it’s been around for years. I have been a crafter and sewing for years, also worked in manufacturing as a stitcher, and one thing I find, is no oiling instructions/points in the manual. I am really disappointed as, upon opening and setting up my machine, it was loud, and needed oiling. It was extremely hard to locate oiling points, and thankfully, as a woman, I am somewhat mechanically inclined, to KNOW what needs to be oiled. Once that was done, I didn’t hear a peep out of my machine… it works fantastic! However, for individuals not so mechanically inclined, I would suggest your instructions have a section for oiling points. I have kept my Kenmore lasting beyond 30 yrs… I have a computerized Brother, but my preference is similar to the old Kenmore/ Singer machines…if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. 0

Machine Manual

Really, no machine manual in the box?? This is incredibly disappointing, and quite frankly cheap. I can understand saving paper by not including a manual for a toaster, or a can opener, but a sewing machine? With a sewing machine, the manual is referred to often and something I consider imperative. Sorry Singer, you're losing my interest and value that I once held in your product.
