Good solid machine

Bought this machine as a replacement for a much loved Kemore I've used since 1976. I was in the middle of a project and couldn't wait for my baby to be repaired. I have steered away from buying new because I didn't like the feel of the newer machines. This one is noisier, and it's taken me a couple of weeks to become friends - the needle threader was a bit weird and this is my first drop-in bobbin experience. My only complaints are the hand wheel is a bit small for my arthritic hands, and the cord for the pedal and power are not really long enough for my preference. The pedal is not what I would have expected in a machine advertised as heavy duty, but I am getting used to the "touch" needed. I like the extension table very much, and all the feet from my old machine are compatible so I have not had to go to great expense for that. I just wish the pedal had a longer cord and was a little more robust. A silicon adapter/cover that could be added to the hand wheel would be nice. Overall I am please with the way it works. I am a very experienced sewer - theatrical costumes, clothing, soft furnishings, and quilting (machine or hand pieced, but hand quilted).

Great for crafting

Very pleased with the sewing ability of this machine. Easily sews multiple layers of fabric without hesitation. The learning curve of working with a new machine was a bit arduous, but overall am very pleased and would recommend.
I would recommend this to a friend!

terrible experience!

I bought it because of Singer famous name. I needed upgrade from my basic Brother machine I have had for 20 years. I honestly don't care about the noise it makes or inconvenient foot pedal. It started to catch on the back, the back of the stitch is all loops. I can't get it to work. Reading other reviews it is clear it is the machine. I am just beyond frustration.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Awesome for a beginner

I bought this machine to make dog bandanas, so it was basic sewing for this newbie. I've branched out to adding elastic at the bottom of my tops--a must have because of my short torso. Today I'm working on Palazo pants for my daughter when she's dancing ballroom. I have found this machine easy to use, the instruction book easy to understand and as I get braver as a seamstress I will grow into all the wonderful features. Thanks Singer for making the HD6380M!

Great Machine

I purchased this to replace a very old (30+ years old) Kenmore machine that I inherited from my mother. I plan on using it as a multipurpose sewing machine. This means from sewing Covid masks, to sewing dust covers for my large tools in the basement. I am impressed with the machine. The fabric that I use for the masks is very tightly woven, and it was a little hard on the old machine. The dust cover material in multi-layers was a challenge for the old machine. The new one just took off. I tested it on 4 layers of the heavy rubberized material that I make the dust covers out of and it zipped right thru with no problems. Threading the machine is easy, except that the lowest thread location above the needle can be a little difficult to thread. The needle threader works fine. The thread cutter on the side is a great improvement from the rear location on the old machine. It did take time adjusting to the location of the thread cutter, and the reverse button, but nothing difficult or bad for use. The foot pedal is as I have found on the other Singer sewing machines I have used - it really takes time to get used to it. It sometimes seems that it is either full on or off.
As in the past, I did find that applying some of the grease I use to maintain the machine to the pivot pins for the foot control helped a lot. The top drop in bobbin is a great feature (no more running out of bobbin thread in the middle of a seam), and very easy to remove/refill/install. I have very few cons for this machine. I would love to see the same machine made with a metal instead of plastic case around the frame. With the metal case I would welcome the hinged side and top covers like on the old machine. It would make the occasional required maintenance easier to perform. The new machine requires screws to be removed for any work under the covers. The light is a bit weak for the work area. It would be nice if it had a socketed bulb, with a LED installed. I installed a LED bulb in the socket on the old machine, and it made a huge difference. This is a minor problem for me since I moved a row of LED strip lights from my old to new machine and all is bright. Lastly, I would prefer that the plastic internal parts (some gears, the presser foot lever, etc.) were metal. I expect them to last a long time, but would be more comfortable if they were metal.
Overall it's a great product, I would buy it again, and I do recommend it to others.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I made a grocery bag out of canvas with French seams and boxed the corners and this machine handled the heavy fabric and thick seams like it was butter. I love this machine looking forward to making more things.
