Good Product, a little hard to install.

t is very quiet; although, there is a very low frequency vibration that resonates through the mounts into the wall when it first starts up. It's not too bad in that regard. I have Marvin Infinity replacement windows which have a very large handle which needs to be left in place and a lip which is too fragile to handle the weight of an AC unit. I solved the lip issue with a 3/4" wooden shim (aka a 1x2) - see the dark brown spacer in the inside photo. The handle on the window makes it tricky to install the unit to clear the handle. There wasn't really enough forward/backward adjustment ff the unit is pitched back at much of an angle (pitching the AC also makes the slot smaller). I had to settle for the unit being almost level (I'm hoping it will settle back a little bit). The adjustments for the support legs would either keep it almost upright or a full bubble back - I really needed an interim setting. Note that this means I had to take the unit out and put it back in three times to find the optimum setting. Having the shim made installation easier: I drilled clearance holes for the #8 sheet metal screws in the wood ahead of time and used the shim as a template to drill smaller holes in the window sill. I used 1.5" #8 stainless sheet metal screws to attach the bracket to the still. Speaking of drilling holes for sheet metal screws, 1/8" is a little too big if you want the screw threads to engage in a pine window sill and not pull out. The other installation issue I had was that I have vinyl siding and I was afraid the support legs would ruin it. You can pull the rubber off and there are two holes you can use to screw the feet to a piece of wood (see pictures). I glued a sheet of vinyl to the other side of the wood to protect my siding. I probably had about 8 hours in this installation. 4 to get out my tools, cut the wood and paint it and 4 hours to actually do the installation. It takes me 1-2 hours to install a regular air conditioner.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A great unit except for one bizarre design choice

It's a great unit, very quiet and efficient, and looks great too. But it's got one glaringly odd design choice that stands out, and makes this unit annoying to operate-the OK button on the remote. It's centered in the middle of a circle, giving it import and gravitas, the most important button on the remote. You'd think it would do what other OK buttons do-confirm choices, set the temperature. But no. Not this OK button. For some reason, pressing OK enters the unit into WiFi pairing mode, even if you've already paired it-disconnecting your phone from remote access, and locking the unit into a blinking "AP" mode, which can't be disabled unless you wait a long time or shut the entire unit off completely and power it on again. Heaven help you if you press it accidentally, because you'll be locked out of the controls until you power-cycle it completely, which is not healthy for a running AC compressor. It's a mind-bogglingly silly design choice that mars what is an otherwise excellent window air conditioner.

I live in Florida. It gets HOT here, this summer (2023) it has been day after day of 95 (feels like 100) . My in-laws 36,000 BTU Central air system was having issues, so I put the 12,000 BTU U-Shape unit in their Mobile home along with 3 other Midea smaller units (8,000 regular, 5,000 regular and 6,000 regular), the 5,000 and 6,000 are in bedrooms (quiet units). The 12,000 U-shape and 8,000 regular are catty cornered across the main living room/dinning room areas. The whole house is 1500 sqft. The main area that the 12 and the 8 are cooling is about 750 sqft. The 8,000 btu unit hardly ever comes on... I'll say that again, the 8,000 unit hardly comes on. That 12,000 U-Shape unit is keeping that entire area cold by itself until around 4pm. That's when the 8,000 finally kicks in for a while. 12,000 BTU units are not supposed to be able to do that! All in all, the house stays around 72-74 degrees and these units are using less power than the main unit was using. Their neighbors (who have central air in comparable mobile homes) are getting $330 power bills. My in-laws are just over $200. To say these units are efficient is an understatement. I have lived in Florida for over 50 years, I have used all sorts of AC units over time and I have NEVER seen anything like this! If you are on the fence about buying a Midea unit, pull the trigger. I highly recommend the U-Shape units. They are AMAZING and are well worth the money. I won't buy any other brand going forward. Midea has won me and my family as loyal customers. And at the price they charge, the unit could quit working after a year or two and I would buy another one. They perform too good under these conditions not to use them.

Warning: 12,000 btu not for temps above 85 degrees

The 12,000 btu unit will not keep rooms cool efficiently above a certain outdoor temperature. We've had it set at 73* most of the time and it did well. Turned off regularly, dehumidified when needed, etc. now that the outside temperature is reachin* the high 80s and low 90s the unit rarely stops running and will not cool below 73*. Our 8,000 btu units in the upstairs do not have this problem at all and keep the upstairs below 70* if we want them to before bed. I wish I had gone with a 10,000 btu unit or even two 8,000 for our first floor.

Doesn't work as well as my 10,000

I'm sorry to say I am very disappointed with this product. My 15 year old 10,000 BTU works better than this at cooling the house with very similar amount of electrical draw. We have a small single level home. The 12,000 btu unit will not keep rooms cool efficiently above a certain outdoor temperature. We have owned this for less than a week, it was difficult to install and now that the outside temperature is reaching the high 80s and low 90s the unit rarely stops running and will not cool below 73. Such a disappointment.

I am running this a/c at 60 degrees on highest fan and it is not up to the task. I don't believe it can actually cool 550 sq ft. I'm disappointed.

I love my 12000 btu Midea U AC. I bought it to use in my camp as it hiad a high efficiency rating and I am off grid. I had been using two 2000 watt inverter generators to run my fridge and small (6000 btu) older style ac unit at my camp as if I used 1 the generatorwould kick out at times due to overload when both were running. Since I bought the Midea U 12000 btu unit I use 1 2000 watt generator and have never had it kick out with both the fridge and ac on it. In fact I run it on eco mode and it barely ramps up just for a second or 2 when either the fridge or ac compressor initializes. I get 10 hours of run time off from a single gallon on fuel. Did I mention I use this to cool down my whole camp instead of just one small room with the old ac we were using! Oh and it still powers my lights and tv etc... Yeah this ac rocks so I bought another for my house in November for the up coming summer months 7 months away.... I then bought another in march for my moms house to beat the rush of summer back orders.....I love, not like this ac unit! They are awesome for my needs! I will be buying another for a rental I have sooner rather than later. No hesitation.

Great quiet air conditioner!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am writing this later then I wanted to because I hurt my hip and couldn’t place air conditioner sooner but happy to review today. I love this quiet air conditioner. I have never seen one where you can open window after it is placed but with the bracket it makes it possible. It also has a remote and works with smartphones too. You won’t be disappointed it works wonderfully.
