Battery life sucks—literally

Bought our first Dyson a couple of months ago (2 months at the most) and our battery already is not performing. I agree with every other 1⭐️ rating on here—for the money this vacuum’s battery shouldn’t suck so bad after 10 uses. And Dyson—please don’t cloud the truth from this post with your “MAX setting”—I use the vacuum on its regular setting and get maybe 10-15 minutes at most after a full overnight charge.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Can't say enough good about this product!

Both of my children had this vacuum. I had a perfectly good vacuum and was reluctant to pay for another. I did and it is one of the very best ways I have ever spent money! It is easy on my back, so lightweight. It really picks up and I was shocked to empty so often! It really cleans and I seldom use the max power mode! The handheld makes small areas so easy to clean. I have had about 2 yrs and have always had plenty of charge. We just bought another one for our lake home. I could go on and on. Dyson makes a fabulous product!

Great cordless vacuum!

Have a V6 slim for 5-6 years. Wife dropped it down stairs. Glued it back together. Still works. This V8 works even better. Great suction and easy to use.

Just received my V8 today - and I am quite disappointed. The battery is shockingly bad. After waiting 5 hr for it to charge you would expect a run time of at least 40 min and not the decieving “up to 40min” advertised. The handle design is very uncomfortable and gave me a blister just 20min into using it. It is a pity because the suction is great, and the accessories and versatility are also great. I have the Dyson hair dryer so I am a returning customer, and can confidently say that their motors are great. I’ve also specified their commercial hand dryers in projects, and I know they make state if the art products. This, however, missed the mark for me and in my humble opinion needs some improvements in design and functionality.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to see you've found your V8 to be disappointing, thus far in your use. Your Dyson V8™ cordless offers two powerful suction modes - regular and MAX. MAX provides a boost of suction for larger debris or more stubborn messes. This mode should not be utilized for your everyday cleaning, as it will only give you about 7 minutes of run time. Regular suction is generally suitable for every household, and gives up to 40 minutes of run time (30 when using a motorized tool).
We would certainly not expect a blister to occur as a result of using your Dyson product. If you are finding this to be your experience, we would recommend holding the unit lower down the handle to prevent rubbing or pressure on the top of your hand. Please also keep in mind that Dyson cordless vacuums will feature a runtime enhancing light touch trigger, which requires little pressure to run the unit as well. It may also prove helpful to ensure the unit is held with a firm, but not a very tight grasp, given that the light touch trigger does not require a very hard press or grasp to operate.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
Gets into otherwise impossible spots to clean
The high suction mode works great
Lots of attachments
Cons:
Short battery life
Takes awhile to recharge
Need to hold power button constantly
Regular suction mode not very strong
This is my 2nd Dyson, my original 2009 Ball Multi-floor is still going strong. I needed something easier to vacuum stairs with and get to places the corded version couldn't. The V8 covers that need but brought my expectations down a notch. Some of my comments here are mentioned in other reviews but worth noting.
The regular suction mode is fair. I'd expect the high suction to be standard mode. The battery life is disappointing, especially if using high suction but even when switched between the two modes, don't expect to get much done without a long recharge. I was baffled about the lack of a lock/hold on the power button. It doesn't take much pressure to activate but my hand would feel less cramped if the only thing I had to worry about was holding the handle.
The V8 is wonderful getting into crevices, baseboards, areas way above my head and generally areas I've been wanting easy access to clean. It's amazing as an upholstery vacuum. Love not having to worry about a cord.
All in all for me it's an expensive quick hitter for upholstery, small rugs, hard to get places. "Would you recommend this product?" There's no "Maybe" button below this review so I'll default to yes. Would something less expensive be comparable? Unsure. My first Dyson had me ruined to look at any other brands going forward.

The Cadillac of vacuums!

My kids bought me the Dyson for my birthday and I couldn’t be more impressed. I’m 54 and this is the best vacuum I’ve ever owned . It’s Dyson from here on out!
