I have had Dyson vacuums for years in my home, so naturally, when we remodeled our offices at work I got all Dyson vacuums. WRONG IDEA. I didn't have this vacuum for 3-months before it stopped working. It is fully charged and it just stops. At first, it was only in high mode. Now it is in high and low mode. I have cleaned it and put it back together multiple times. Do not buy this model. It is weak and stops working immediately after purchase. I dont think I will ever buy a Dyson again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We absolutely love this lightweight jewel! No cord!!! All the extra attachments are amazing. We knew the Dyson name and reputation but now we know the product. We will never buy another brand.

excellent pickup on hard floors, quiet

A few years ago we purchased the V6 Animal and love it, still does great picking up tracked kitty litter and animal hair off our ebonized floors. Then we got the V7 Absolute and, again, love it, super at picking up off our hard (wood, tile) floors, plus the canister is sooo much easier to empty (than the V6). Recently we got the V8 Animal and it is really just like the V7 except noticeably quieter, I mean A LOT quieter. Interesting. I had to deduct a star, though, as it was 2x the cost of the V7 and that is just insane. Or maybe I'm insane because I paid it. Both.

First Dyson purchase - huge letdown

The vacuum stopped working after <10 minutes and the battery light was flashing, after having been fully charged. The site says "Up to 40 min run time*" without any additional context. You need to look at the manual to see that you have up to 7min in "max mode" using a floor attachment. 25 min of a floor attachment in normal mode. The only way to get 40 min is to use the attachments for crevices/couches. I'm unsure how this is being marketed as helpful for a full home, as there's no way to clean more than one room in seven minutes. Additionally, note that you need to hold the trigger down constantly for the vacuum to stay on, which isn't comfortable.

Your Dyson V8™ cordless offers two powerful suction modes - regular and MAX. MAX provides a boost of suction for larger debris or more stubborn messes. This mode should not be utilized for your everyday cleaning, as it will only give you about 7 minutes of run time. Regular suction is generally suitable for every household, and gives up to 40 minutes of run time (30 when using a motorized tool). We can confirm that you do need to hold the trigger down, in order to engage the motor. Not bad, but I now have realize why……

Not bad, but I now realize why this specific model was so affordable. The battery life is not what I was used to/expecting it to be. I have used two other Dyson models and the battery life was longer. I have an apartment that is about 1200 sq ft., and if I use the max setting, it runs out of battery. I also wish it had a light towards the floor, and a locking mechanism for the power button so I didn’t have to hold it in the on position while I was vacuuming. With that being said, for the affordability of this specific unit, a good value.

Suction is great for a handheld , only issue is that the trigger hurts your thumb , it does not stay on , it has to be continuously pressed , very uncomfortable . You would think paying that much they would find a better option or pass the area above the trigger .
