I have to wear gloves when I use it to reduce the strong shock this vacuum gives me every few seconds. Also, after using for a couple of years, I'm lucky if I get 5 minutes of use before the battery dies.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

With regard to any type of static shock while using your machine, a static charge can build up on the product when particles in the airstream move relative to the stationary parts of the product. The level of the static charge will depend on many factors including the type of material being vacuumed up and how dry the atmosphere is. Very dry atmospheres and fine dust can make the size of the discharge worse.
Your Dyson V8™ cordless offers two powerful suction modes - regular and MAX. MAX provides a boost of suction for larger debris or more stubborn messes. This mode should not be utilized for your everyday cleaning, as it will only give you about 7 minutes of run time. Regular suction is generally suitable for every household, and gives up to 40 minutes of run time (30 when using a motorized tool). If you feel that your V8 might be malfunctioning, we do offer a two-year warranty on this product. Just reach out to our customer support at askdysonUS@dyson.com so we can help.

Great Vacuume

I love the ease of removing and applying the attachments on this vacuume. Also the cleaning of floors ande carpet are great. The only minus is the battery does not last long at all and seems to take forever to recharge.

Dyson Makes Cleaning Fun

Who would ever think that a vacuum so light, not having to plug-in to be able to vacuum my entire apartment? Well I want to introduce you to my Dyson vacuum. My Dyson vacuum makes cleaning fun. It’s powerful engine and design doesn’t miss the smallest crumb. It is extremely versatile being able to vacuum my hardwood floors, short and furiest of rugs. Thank you Dyson

Purchased a month ago and am pretty happy with the unit. I've found it doesn't last 25 minutes while using the max suction, which is disappointing. I have to vacuum half my house, hook to recharge and then finish later on.
Suction wise - does a great job! If you have pets, it's wonderful.

Makes my carpet look great!

I bought my Dyson V8 about a month ago. We have a dog, and a yard with lots of debris from trees and sand. The Dyson really picks it all up, especially the dog hair. It is incredibly light and reaches under the tables so easily. I like the max suction feature because it works well with sand. The Dyson is a definite improvement over our old central vac system, less cumbersome/easier to use and cleaning power.

Battery Absolutely Suck

I bought a Dyson V8 in 2017 and the the battery continually lost charge until it died in 2019. They replaced the battery and then it continued to lose charge and died again. Now they won't replace it saying the vacuum is out of warrantee. Save your money

Even when the warranty exhausts, we still provide diagnostic support for the life of the machine and if needed, we provide guidance on purchasing any parts needed to bring the machine back to optimal working condititon.
Battery degradation, like that in a cell phone or laptop, is completely normal for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries such as the V8's battery. Over time, the charge time can be depleted and the battery will need replacing.

I have fibromyalgia and need a lightweight vacuum. My Dyson is so light and comfortable and the battery charger keeps it flat against the wall and out of the way. For a first-time user, I am sold on this product.
