I recently upgraded from a dual band to the tri band router. This exceeds expectations and covers our house very well without the need for a mesh system. We run multiple devices for streaming and gaming, as well as a smart home hub and security system. This thing is no slouch and is the real deal! I recommend for anyone looking to upgrade.

Firmware updates dont work on Netgear Nighthawks

This is the second and final Netgear router I'll buy. The firmware update reminder is always present. It never works. Manual uploads also fail. I don't understand how these routers get such glowing reviews when such a basic feature doesn't work. If I had issues with the router outside of being wildly outdated on updates, I'd be forced to replace it, which is a massive hassle. If I lived in a more populated place, I'd be more concerned about my lack of updates. As it is, a negative review and swearing off this junk brand is as good as I can do.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The QoS is flat out broken

The firmware doesn't allow for MAC address based QoS, which I'd expect from such a pricey router. But even still, enabling the "Dynamic QoS" drops bandwidth for all devices, I had to disable it. I've googled and googled this and the most recent information I've found was a forum post saying there's a bug that wasn't patched for some routers, and I can only conclude that this is one of them.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
