I've had other Singer's and Janome's....but this little machine does it all...it's quiet, love the thread trimmer and the built in threader. I have not used all the stitches since I just purchased it about 2 weeks ago. So far it has been easy to use and I am making a big size quilt top...the thread trimmer makes it so much easier and saves time and thread. I would am very satisfied with this machine.

This is my 3rd sewing machine and I tried 7 other sewing machines including brands like Pfaff, Janome, Brothers and I have to say for the price range this is my favorite. i stitched out all 170 utility, decorative and heirloom stitches. Haven't try the button holes yet. They all look great except for stitch # 42 (boat), # 47 (train) and # 44 (house). Stitch # 42 was quite off, while # 47 & 44 was just a little bit off. I believe there is a spot underneath the sewing machine that I can adjust if the stitches are off. Other than that this machine sew beautifully. I mostly sewn on light fabric, so I am yet to find out how it does on heavy fabric. The touch screen is super easy to use and the best part is when I adjust stitch length and width I can see the changes on the screen real time. I really like this feature as it gives me a visual what the stitch will actually looks like. One down side is I cannot adjust the brightness of the touch screen. During the day the screen brightness is not as big of a problem but when I am sewing at night with less light, the screen was so bright that I start seeing a halo after staring at it for a while. Another thing I love about this machine is the weight. I have sewn on some lighter machines in the past. For the lighter weight machine when I sew on high speed the entire machine start jumping and trembling. However I have no problem with this machine at all. Mind you even at top speed this machine does not sew that fast compared to other ones. Lastly I wish that there are more room underneath the bobbin case for me to clean with my brushes like other sewing machines. When you open the bottom plate where the bobbin sits it is surrounded by an enclosed metal frame. There's pros and cons to that. Pro: you know this is a solid machine. Con: you cannot clean out any lint that is trapped underneath the bobbin case. Over all this is a great machine for beginners and experience sewers. For the price range you are getting an excellent machine that hopefully will inspire many fun projects.

This machine is a nightmare. The fabric gets stuck under the needle if you begin at the end of the fabric. It has to be cut out! The automatic button hole maker is a disaster. I will have to make the button holes by hand. As soon as the quarantine is over I will drive the 1 hour with my 35 year old workhorse touch-tronic 2001 to hopefully have the bobbin case replaced or repaired. this machine has made me cry!!! One day I actually punched it.

I biught this machine for my business of making small things like bags, and quilted items. This is the second machine I have had in 6 months, and both times the motor went on it. It has had to be serviced twice, and it never stitched properly. For such an expensive machine, and the name. i expect better quality. Very disappointed

Plugged the machine in and the screen will not move forward, will not let me sew or anything else Nothing is worse than a machine that is broken before you get to use it once. I have contacted the customer service by email and I am calling tomorrow. Right now with stay at home can't even get it service Real nice! Would not recommend anyone purchasing a Singer. I would give it less than one star if that were possible. Every company should make sure their product works when you open the box.

I bought this as a backup sewing machine for my Pfaff Performance 5.0. The Pfaff was only a month old and had 2 problems. I created one problem and another was due to manufacture. The Singer is about $500 while the Pfaff is $2750. Naturally the much more expensive sewing machine is better but I've been using the Singer 9985 now for the past month and find no significant faults with it. The start of a stitch pattern will often have a few tangled threads at the beginning but that can be eliminated if you put tension on the upper thread. Other than that, the Singer is an exceptional machine for the price. The Singer 9985 will do almost everything the Pfaff can do. The stitch is a little better on the Pfaff but that would seldom be an issue of concern. You cannot buy a Pfaff on the Internet sites like a Singer. So the Singer is has a more economical and competitive price. The Pfaff can only be obtained from the few authorized dealers where support is better but the price is naturally higher. Phone support for the Singer was as good as with a Pfaff. Local personal support from a dealer is less likely with a Singer since it was bought online. In Texas, there is only one place I can send the Singer for warrantee repair. There are several places for non-warrantee repair. The repair of a Pfaff is not much better and you must go through the dealer. Essentially, you need a backup sewing machine if you use it all the time. A typical repair will take 1 to 3 months. In my case it has served me best to have a Pfaff for my 1st machine and a Singer for backup. I don't see anything wrong with owning 2 Singer sewing machines if you can do without the direct personal support of a local dealer. I am not aware of any local dealers who carry the Singer 9985 in stock. Once again, I really like the Singer 9985. I will keep it.
