Boiling Water Canning Review

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First thing...not a fan of the permanent cord. The length is good, but I appreciate that the 12Q and 17Q cords can be taken off and stored in canner when not in use. However, I understand the design decision by Presto to remove a failure point. Also, not sure how I feel about the gap between the pot and the control panel. I don't forsee any issues, but I can imagine something falling between that.
Canner weight with 3q of water (no jars) was just over 16lbs.
Filled jars / canner and started Warming step. Water was just over 100°f when this step started. Took 30 minutes for the warming step.
Jars out, filled with apple juice that was ~190°f. 7Q (full load).
Jars back in, water in canner was 182°f. Filled to 1in over jars with water from kettle that was 195°f.
Took 27 minutes for the canner to get to full boiling temp.
Processed for 10 minutes. Canner timer matched my timer for this step.
It took another 45 seconds or so for the lid lock to drop once the 5 minute cool down started.
This canner really likes to spit water out of the lid lock and regulator spout! Enough so that having a towel right next to it is a good idea. May not be as bad when doing pints/HP/QP since the water level will be lower.
Canner weight after removing jars (before dumping water) was just over 25lbs. Also, as others have mentioned, this canner gets HOT! Don't touch the aluminum sides or lid after processing! It took ~20 minutes to be able to put my hand to the side of the pot without leaving skin behind.
Overall thoughts for using this for water bath canning: happy that it can be used for this, however, the overall process is certainly slower than getting my big stock pot out and processing on my stove. I like to be efficient in the kitchen, though, so for those that may move a bit slower or their kitchen gets hot this canner is a great alternative.

We really appreciate your insight and the time you took to review the canner. Thank you. We will share your concerns with our Design and Quality teams. Just a note, the interlock (where the water is spitting) needs to be tightened each time you use the canner. This will help eliminate the 'spitting' issue and assure proper pressure.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

I want to start off by saying I have four 12 qt PPDCs and the oldest one has been performing since 2020 with no issues. As a matter of fact, I have not had any issues with them whatsoever.
Once I saw the Presto 16 and 23 qt canners I was very, very excited.
I bought the 23 quart Digital Canner after receiving and using the 16 qt. Digital Canner. I loved the 16 qt. So much I had to buy the 23 qt.
I know some have complained about the fixed cord and that the canner does not have a removable pot like the 12 quart PPDCs. That does not bother me at all. The canner is not hard to clean at all even with the fixed cord, or the fact the canner does not have a removable pot. All I have to do is place the canner on its side near the sink and use my sprayer to clean and rinse it out.
What I really love about the 23 quart is:
I love the length of the cord, and the ease of operation it has like the 12 quart PPDCs.
Being able to stack pints and that it holds 7 quarts. I don’t have to pull out all four 12 qt PPDCs to can anymore. If I wanted to can 14 quarts of beans, I would have to use three of my 12 qt PPDCS placed all over my kitchen and now I only have to use my 16 and 23 qt canners.
The lid is just like my 23 qt stovetop canner and the seal is not silicone which means it won’t stretch when it is hot.
The pressure valve pops up during venting or before. (It does spit a little water out, but a paper towel below the canner catches any water that does spit out. My stovetop did the same thing.
I have canned meats for up to 90 minutes and the canner still cools down in an hour or less.
I canned boiled peanuts in quarts for 50 minutes and the canner cooled down after 45 minutes.
The only thing that I would caution about is how hot the aluminum sides of the canner get although it is not any different than a stovetop canner because the sides of those get hot too.
I cannot say enough good things about this canner.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My canning history started with a 16 and 23 qt Presto stovetop canner, followed by the Presto Precise Digital canner in the 12 qt, and finally the 17 qt. I was in my glory with these wonderful canners.
Presto has done it again with the new 23 qt Presto Precise digital canner. They’ve merged the best of both the stovetop and the digital canner to create the perfect canner.
I love that it is so much lighter than the 17 qt, and accommodates so many more jars.

Outstanding Digital Pressure Canner!!!

I just received my new 23 qt Digital Pressure Canner. I finished my water test a few minutes ago. The beeps our much louder than the 12 qt Digital Pressure Canner and that is an wonderful improvement. This canner has the longer cord but doesn't come off the canner. I only got 8 reg. mouth pints in the canner, I wasn't sure if the jars should touch. Will try again to get in the 10 jars the quick start guide states it will hold. One of things I noticed it is louder when the water is boiling during the water bath canning process and the jars are much hotter coming out when filling with food. My husband said "you won't forget you are canning with the water boiling like that". Next to water bath up a large amount of peaches that just came in. Happy Canning everyone!
A concern is adding raw pack meat to the hot jars when doing the pressure canning part. I really like the lid as it reminds me of my stove top canner and is easy to put on and take off. I would I recommend this canner.

Effortless, Reliable, and Perfect for Big Batches

I recently purchased the Presto digital pressure canner, and I couldn’t be more impressed. Although I’m an experienced water-bath canner, I’m still relatively new to pressure canning and was initially hesitant to try a digital model. After using this canner, I can confidently say it has exceeded my expectations.
As a busy homesteading mom with three children under four, I appreciate any tool that simplifies my workload. This canner is truly a lifesaver. It’s easy to operate, requires no constant monitoring, and offers the largest capacity available on the market. I also love that it frees up valuable stove space, especially important in a smaller kitchen, so I can continue cooking meals or working on other projects while the canner runs. Presto has clearly put a great deal of thought into both convenience and performance with this design.
In addition to home use, I create content for Can-uary each January, where I share daily canning projects. This canner will significantly reduce the stress of producing consistent, high-quality content while also keeping up with the demands of regular food preservation.
The only improvement I would suggest is a removable power cord for easier storage. Otherwise, the canner is excellent. In fact, I’m already considering purchasing the smaller version as well, which would be ideal for days when I’m processing especially large batches and want to run two canners at once.
Overall, I highly recommend the Presto digital pressure canner to both new and experienced canners who want reliability, efficiency, and capacity without sacrificing ease of use.

My new favorite electric pressure canner
on August 25, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When you are serious about canning with an electric unit, this is the way to go! I own several other Electric Pressure Canners -- including the Presto Precise Digital 12 quart, as well as a stovetop Presto 23 quart. I can lots of soups and home-grown veggies. I love that when I need to do a large batch, I need to use only one electric pressure canner instead of pulling out multiple smaller units. I also love that there's no liner, and the canning process remains simple and do-able for the busiest folks! Remember, as always, to use tested times and recipes! Thanks much for this newest addition Presto!

This is a Beautiful Beast!

This is a massive piece of equipment, but it did not disappoint. The screen prompts you through all of the steps to pressure canning, and keeps your kitchen cooler than using the stove. I could not believe how much this streamlined my process!
It sat in our kitchen table for over a week, and knowing how easy it was to get food prepped an in the canner? It encouraged me to do one more batch…and pretty soon our pantry was fuller than it has been in years! The folks at our local farm stand saw me every few days taking advantage of the inexpensive and super fresh produce that we will enjoy all winter long.
It’s a large piece of equipment, so storing it is going to take some rearranging, but that is an easy challenge to accept. My only regret is not buying it sooner.
