Love this new canner

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So very easy to use! I love this new hybrid canner. Its is lighter than my other digital and for me that’s a wonderful improvement. I found the canning instructions simple and straightforward. The lid is different from my other digital canner, more like my older stovetop Presto, but no issues to put on. I do wish that the water level mark inside the canner was a bit more defined, as I can’t see as well as I used too. I did start out with doing a pressure canning water test. The machine performed flawlessly. Next day I put up quarts of homegrown tomato sauce. Again, the canner worked went through all its stages without a hitch. I am very satisfied that this new canner will take me through many canning sessions efficiently and consistently.
I would recommend this to a friend!

16 qt Preston precise digital scanner

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this canner in exchange for a review. I'm an experienced scanner and I have used both depressto stove top for many years and also the 12 qt Presto precise digital canner since it became available. This scanner is a hybrid of those two products
The lid locking system is the same as it is with the stove top canner. And the way you place the regulator on it. And then of course you set your electric controls the same way as the other preso digital. I have. the 16 qt model. In particular I like the size of it, the 16 q will hold seven quart jars and is comparable in size to the 12 qt of the earlier versions. The main difference is this is not got an insulated exterior but it is the same aluminum sides of the canner such as a stove top would have. I do like that you don't have to mess with the lid locking latch after getting the lid in place. And it's great to be able to have the larger capacity. One of the negatives I have heard many people say is they wished that the electric canner could hold more like the standard canners.
This canner has an attached 6 ft cord, which will eliminate the issues that some have had when the cord does not stay fully engaged and prevent losing it.
My only real negative comment on this scanner is that you cannot submerge it for cleaning because the court is attached and of course the electric controls are attached. This does not have a removable liner like previous models. I don't predict it will really cause a great problem though because I never really submerged it that often anyway. You just need to be more careful.
Things I would recommend changing. I noticed that the overpressure plug is to the front of the canner and it has always been recommended to have it pointing to the back just in case it would actually release so that it would direct the steam away from you. The second thing I would recommend although it was also not available on earlier models, is to at least show continuously what your time is set for. What I mean is let's say you intended to set your timer for 90 minutes. Once you set it in the beginning you never see that number again until it goes into canning mode. I think having a number show even up in the corner in small numbers right from the beginning would be helpful. Then if you had said it wrong you could go back and reprogram it correctly. This is a very easy canner to use and I think if you have been on the fence about moving over to digital particularly because of size restrictions this might be the canner for you. You don't have to worry if your stove is appropriate for a canner and it also takes away babysitting the gauge and make you sure you keep your heat at the proper level.
Presto has been a leader in home canning for more than 100 years and with improvements such as these I am sure that they will continue to be in the future.

As a long time stove top pressure canner person, I can say I love my new 16 quart Presto digital pressure canner! I no longer have to vigilantly stand by the stove and adjust the temperature on my old pressure canner to hold the correct pounds of pressure. My new Presto canner basically tells me what to do at each step of the canning process. No more hovering or guesswork involved. It’s wonderful!

Compare 12qt to 16qt
on November 12, 2025
Posted by: Newbie Lib
As life has decided to keep me amazingly busy this summer with work and responsibilities I'm so happy to say my recent Maiden voyages with my new 16 qt Presto digital has been exciting and interesting comparing the 16 qt to my 12 qt. I was happy to see the laminated sheet from my 12 qt was very similar to the new 16 qt. The cord is attached and is very long. I felt this was good to reach bigger distance to the outlets but I'm spoiled at removing the cord on my 12 qt. No inner pot on the 16 qt is a bit more work for me in washing it at the sink and dealing with the long cord cuz the removable pot in the 12 quart is very light and easy at the sink. I'm curious if Presto could attach a bracket that we could wrap the cord around on the back side of the unit. I loved the louder beeps on the 16 qt as my 12 qt is very quiet. I found the three quart "fill line" on the 16 qt to be barely visible and as I fill from my water faucet I hope the measure line would be more dominant. The little black plastic "over pressure" plug will be easy to lose and tricky for my arthritic hands to put in and take out. I did discover it goes on easier if pushed in from below. I love the fact that the Beeper kept beeping after I put the regulator on which helps me to remember to hit the advanced button. Also glad the quick start guide put a reminder on it that the black plug should be in the unit for pressure canning. I've always been intimidated by the Vintage type "jiggly jiggly" type canners and as much as the new 16 quart look similar but seems lighter I'm so excited to be using this unit more and more as my life starts to slow down. Thank you Presto and our moderators for doing all you do to help newbies like me!
