I love this Canner!

I received the 16 qt Presto Precise Digital Canner and I LOVE it!
I originally went digital back in 2020 with the 12 quart PPDCs and grew my family to 4 over the last five years owning all four of the 12 qt. Models. I have never had an issue with any of them, and they are still working great! The main reason I went digital is due to where I live and it is just too hot in the summer to use my stovetop. I normally only use it during the winter months.
Once I saw the 16 and 23 quart canners I was very excited hearing how they held 7 qt jars vs 5 qt jars that the 12 qt canners hold, AND the fact in the 23 qt I could stack pints like I could in my Presto 23 qt stovetop canner.
I started with the 16 qt. Canner, and I loved it so much I purchased the 23 qt digital canner a week and a half later.
This canner has a fixed cord which for some may be an issue, but it can prevent a canner from shutting down by someone not plugging their canner in securely like some have experienced using the 12 qt canners.
These canners do not have a removable pot since they do not have the shroud around it like the 12 qt does.
I love the fact the lid is similar to my 23 qt stovetop Presto Canner.
I love that the pressure valve is very dependable and pops up before or during the 10 minute venting countdown.
This canner cools down so much faster than the 12 qt canners due to the fact there is no shroud around the canner which I think slows down the cooling process. My new 16 and 23 qt canners cool down in half the time it takes for my 12 qt PPDCs to cool down. Something that should be noted about the 16 and 23 qt canners: The aluminum sides of the canners get hot due to the fact they do not have a shroud around them like the 12 qt canners Those who purchase this canner should make sure that children should not be able to touch the sides of the canner.
You cannot waterbath quarts in the 16 qt canner, but due to the heat here I use a steam canner in lieu of waterbathing, so that is not an issue to me.
The canners are a little pricey, but I do take into consideration the research, materials, and time taken to create and manufacture a machine that will can safely. I am willing to pay the price for that to have a great canner.

Presto Digital Pressure Canner 16QT

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Update: it does not heat up the house, but for water bath pints it does spew a lot of water from the pipe hole. and unlike the 12 quart I could adjust the sealing gasket inside the lid to control excess water but for the 16th quart and I’m assuming the 23 quart also there is no adjustment to the sealing gasket as It sits under a notch snug against the lid. The jars sealed within minutes of removing.
I received my 16 quart PPDC on Friday. Today I completed the water test and like Its predecessors It Is very user friendly. Very lightweight. I was getting it out of the box and I was tugging with all my mind. It almost went over my shoulders into the laundry room; It Is that lightweight. The manual had me washing the lid and the gasket and the rack is soap and water. Cleaned up and dried perfectly.
You still operate the canner with the same digital input for time and choosing boiling water, canning or pressure canning method
The only thing I saw missing from the lid, actual alignment directions but the directions are there on the quick start guide on each side for pressure canning or boiling water canning in section 2.
When it got down to step number five for cooling on the boiling water side, you carefully unlock the lid and remove the canner cover the timer will continue counting down during the cooling. This happened very quickly within five minutes and then the timer expired beeping 10 times and it was done.
Now I am prepping again for doing a small batch of pitted cherries with simple syrup from the instruction manual recipe on page 37.
I love this canner and will use it simultaneously with the 12 quart PPDC. The upside is there is no removable liner to have to wash, is very lightweight, cools down quickly, and mimics the stovetop model. You will have to dump the water. The regulator is the same as the later models of the 12 quart and 17 quart. It just sits on top of the post. The regulator looks identical to the 12 quart.
The only thing that it cannot do is water bath quarts and that Is disappointing.
The next thing that you should take note of is that the power cord is permanently attached. I don’t know if that’s because they might have had a high rate of disconnections in testing, but the cord is longer than my 12 quart cord. The last thing is is that there is no handle on the lid; you have to grip the lid (Small surface area) see picture to turn to remove the lid and it is very hot.
There should be a sticker on canner itself to say HOT DO NOT TOUCH WHILE IN PROCESS. (on the canner in the lid.)
I tried to add images but it wouldn’t let me.

Great addition to any canner’s kitchen

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the third Presto canner I’ve owned. First, the stovetop model (40 years, still working); then, the 12 quart Precise Digital Pressure Canner (about 3 years, stll working). But THEN…I heard about the NEW 16 quart Precise Digital pressure canner that allows quart pressure canning and water bath canning. I had to try it. The first thing I noticed was how lightweight it was. There’s no inner pot. I’ll admit it took me a minute to get used to that. But this old body struggles with heavy canners so this was a welcome change. And all the built-in features of the original digital are there. I cannot say enough about how nice this canner is. It’s a little nostalgic, with it’s looking so much like my original stovetop model. If only I could give it more than 5 stars!

Light weight & larger capacity

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] i believe people who are used to using a stove top canner will find that the addition of electronic digital operation to be the great.. I have been using the 12 qt canner for a few years and loved that. This canner is the same in it's operation but bigger in capacity and lighter than the 12 qt. The beep is very audible and I have no problem hearing it in another room. The cover gasket is attached to the cover itself so would be hard to come loose. Glad I could use vinegar in the water to avoid hard water build up because the canner is not coated with anything that will chip away. The cord is hard wired into the canner which is probably better than having to connect & disconnect before & after use..
I love the light weight but find it very awkward to carry the canner over to the sink to empty the water out. the cord gets in the way and I miss the insert that is used inside the 12 qt. I'm always afraid of splashing water into the electronic parts of the canner.
This canner is not insulated and heats up quite a bit. I found that out the hard way. I might use it in the cooler months because it seems to heat my kitchen up. One good thing is that since it's not insulated, it cools down faster than my 12 qt but not so fast as too cause siphoning.
I like the idea that it holds pretty much a full load of jars called for in most recipes. Less "canning math" needed to adjust to a smaller canner.
I had a hard time finding the 3qt water fill line inside the canner. I usually fill using my sink spray hose and don't use a quart measuring container. I used a sharpie to mark the line so now I know where the 3 qt line is.
I'm not used to the regulator not snapping into place. i keep forgetting to take it off when I turn it over to clean it and the regulator falls off onto the floor. i always stored the regulator on the cover vent pipe and removed it for every canning cycle. I'm sure it's a matter of getting used to that.
Over all - this canner is completely up to the high standards I would expect from Presto. I would recommend this and the 23 qt digital canner.

We thank you for your review and will share your thoughts with our Design Team. Please know that a little bit of splashing water onto the electronic area will not harm the canner. Precautions are in place to help prevent damage. Just don't immerse the canner as that WILL affect the wiring.

The best of both DIGITAL AND STOVE TOP

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this canner. I have used the PRECISE DIGITAL CANNER since it came out 4 years ago I believe. This canner is lighter and simpler. It is literally a stove top canner with a built in heating element to assure proper heat. You will not need to bother with extra parts like the insert pan, small gaskets and heat sensor - - - much less to go wrong. I love it especially for my hot water bath canning. I felt the insulated Precise Digital Canner overcooked my pickles and fruits. And as true with the Percise Digital I'm not taking up space on my stove at meal preparation time.

Awesome pressure canner. First batch I did in it I fell in love. It is so easy to use. It's perfect for beginners and seasoned canners. If you're afraid to pressure can I recommend this canner. It tells you when to do every step automatically. It also does water bath canning. It can't get any better than that. For me this pressure canner is worth every penny it costs.

Pros: - extremely light weight! - Tradional style most people are used to - Easy digital programming - long cord - loud audible beep - fast warm up - depressurizes fast -seal stays put and creates a good contact -heavy duty components -great for smaller batches/beginner canners
Cons: - not big enough to waterbath quarts/small capacity not ideal for a bigger scale gardening/preserving - no removable inner pot -cord in not removable -outside of the pot gets extremely hot (which is fine but needs to be noted)

This canner is just absolutely amazing! As someone who has used traditional stovetop canners for years, I wasn’t sure if I would like the digital version or not. Well let me just say that I am extremely impressed. I’m so impressed that I am considering buying a second one.
One thing I really like about the digital canner is the ease of use. The instructions are straightforward and the prompts on the canner display are easy to use and intuitive. During the canning process, I was amazed at the quietness. It was also nice not having to hover around the stove monitoring the pressure. The canning countdown and cooling period countdown were very useful. I did not notice excessive heat radiating from the canner either. Cleanup was not bad, I had no trouble. However, you will want to keep in mind the attached cord and the digital control panel.
So far I have canned green beans, potatoes, and vegetable soup in this canner and had no issues with the preparation or canning processes. Jars have all sealed and remain sealed.
Overall I give this canner a 5 out of 5 and have already recommended it to some of my friends. I look forward to using it more and more! Thank you Presto for an amazing product.
