Terrible plastic taste

I followed all directions for washing the parts on this with soap and water. Ran multiple water only cycles. Tried making coffee for about a week. Ran vinegar and water through it, ran multiple coffee cycles through it (just dumped the coffee down the drain because the taste was terrible) and it never got rid of the plastic taste. I use filtered bottle water. I’m not sure why this machine is rated so well, but the plastic taste was unbearable. And I’m no coffee snob. They must be using cheap plastic parts now because it was awful. I bought a moccamaster and the first pot tasted amazing.
This makes meh coffee, the stuff from this machine always has an undertone of fresh cardboard, mildew (we'll get to that below), and is usually heavy on the ground flavor rather than being smooth. You know how coffee is something that's larger than the sum of it's parts? Not in this machine. This is both with the crappy grocery store coffee and the small batch fancy coffees. It is IMPOSSIBLE to clean. The tank is not removeable, and there's a big tube running through it, so it's very difficult to clean if any dust or debris gets in there. Do NOT just rinse the carafe and fill the tank from it for another batch, you will get little bits if grounds that will never come out of the tank. The tube from the tank to the drip side is removeable and easy to clean, as are the parts for the drip part. The carafe is not dishwasher safe, so the cleanest it's ever been in the years we've had it is swished around with some soap and hot water. The coffee oil from every. single. batch. ever. brewed. is still in this thing. And the hole in the top is so small that you can't get a hand in there to clean. So...the coffee isn't very good, and it's dirty. I'll definitely have a more stringent list of requirements when I replace this - not sure why we bought two of these when the first one wasn't great.
Purchased OXO 9-cup coffee maker to replace Cuisinart coffee maker and couldn’t be happier. It makes great pot of coffee and is looks beautiful on our countertop.
We have had this coffee maker for years now and it does make a great cup of coffee. So great although I am blessed to live in an area with many chain and local coffee shops if I go to one it is usually just to get a treat to eat. The coffee at home is better! The four instead of five stars is for two reasons. One it is tall and some people may have difficulty fitting into their kitchen. Two if you make a full pot you need another container to keep it hot - we pour the coffee into a large sized Thermos and that solves the problem. Overall a superior product; worth the price.
I bought this coffee maker after years of making pour overs for me and the family. That got a little too time intensive for the weekdays so I switched to a Cusinart which, sadly, died a little less than a year after I bought it. Heard good things about the OXO (SCA certification - optimal brew temp, bloom cycle, etc.) and took the plunge. So far, I’m very pleased with my purchase. The carafe arrived with a small dent on it. I called OXO and was immediately connected to an actual human being who got a new carafe shipped out very quickly.
I was hesitant to purchase a coffee pot like this. I decided to go for it and I do not regret it one bit. The only thing I would change, I would have purchased the 12 cup. Great product with great results.
