Awesome product and easy to install

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Wow! Why didn’t I know about this sooner?! This thing is freaking awesome! Super easy setup and great shade coverage. It does require specific car mounting to be able to use properly, but it’s amazing once you get it figured out. We haven’t tested it out on the elements just yet, but it seems super sturdy and easy to use on the go. I foresee us using this a lot for camping and other outdoor trips.

Easy to set up and versatile for any weather.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A tough duty material that is durable and withstands the weather. With attaching clips that are way easy to use and attached to roof mount easily. Installation is a breeze with easy pull out material and adjustable poles for easy roof setup. An overall great addition to the camping and beach going scene. A decent choice for canopy of sorts.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thanks to Influenster and SlimShady I was able to try this awesome product for free. Installing it was easy enough. It's better if you can have at least one other person to help and to set up. The instructions are easy enough to understand. It comes with everything you need. It provides an ok amount of shade. Maybe for two people at most. It's pretty lightweight. It looks sturdy. I'd recommend it to people looking for this type of product.

Worthwhile if you use frequently

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was very excited to get the SlimShady 6.5, and I like it, but it requires a lot of effort to install. It seems to be a lot of work for the amount of shade it provides. I’m waiting to see how long the mounting brackets last exposed to the elements. So far they are fine, but we’ll have to see how the plastic holds up.

So good

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have resived in this wonderful shadow for the car and after having it for a few weeks and being able to try it a little, I really want to focus on the details and how well it is done! Each seam is perfect, the vinyl and the shade is clearly of very good quality, covering from the sun to the rain and of course it does not need any accessories, I love that it has a key to secure it. It's a little heavy but it doesn't affect at al the easy installation.

Great for outdoor adventures with a few setup quirks
on March 31, 2024

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently had the opportunity to try the SlimShady awning thanks to Yakima and Influenster in exchange for my honest review. As someone who goes on a fair amount of outdoor adventures, I was excited to try this product out.
I am very familiar with tents and shades but never used a vehicle awning before. Setup was a bit challenging even with 2 of us, and in retrospect we should have done a test run before hitting the road. The awning came with 2 manuals which listed different parts. This proved to be confusing when installing the hinges onto the awning bar, as the instructions weee conflicting. In addition to setting it up before you head out, I would also recommend measuring your luggage rack bars to determine the distance, otherwise you’ll be going back and forth removing the awning latches to readjust the placement!
Once we got this part of the setup done, it was relatively easy to figure out the rest. You unzip the bag, pull out the top bars and insert them into the holes at the front of the awning. We encountered another issue here. The holes that the poles fit into don’t seem to have any locking mechanism, and as it was a windy day, they kept popping out of the holes. Once we got the bottom poles on the ground and the awning fully velcroed the awning was much more stable. The final issue encountered was with the pole feet. Unfortunately the little black plastic feet that sit on the bottoms of the poles were missing, leaving us with the pointed bare pole ends scraping on the ground. I suppose if you are pitching this on grass or dirt it’s not a huge issue. But on concrete the poles were just scraping the asphalt. A call or email to Yakima would probably result in the replacement parts, but as we didn’t check for all parts before leaving, we were left with a vulnerability on the road.
Other than the setup issues I like the awning and the idea of having a built in shade on my vehicle. The awning itself seems sturdy, as is the bag it stows into. The brackets and rail seem durable although the poles are a little floppy and even after one use, we noticed scratches and marks on them.
If you can overcome the setup woes by taking time to pre install and deploy it before using this on the road, you’ll probably enjoy the convenience of shade this awning provides.
