Specific Application Use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have owned this electric chainsaw for about 9 months now and have used to clear a woods to build a garage. I cut about 45 trees that ranged from 4" to 18" in diameter. Things that I love about this chainsaw is the light weight, great cutting capability, low noise level, not dealing with gas or spark plugs, challenge starting, hot engine after running long hours. The challenging items are the low battery life, long charge time (which to me is very important if you're doing a large job but not important if just clearing one or two trees that came down), tensioning system broke within a few hours (I had to purchase a replacement), and poor quality chain that only lasts a short period of time even when sharpening consistently. I purchased a second battery with the hopes of being able to cut while the other battery was charging. Unfortunately, the battery life while cutting is short and the charge time is long. I can clear the wood/cut faster than the charge time. If you're not in a rush, then this will work for you. I want to continue to keep cutting and not waste the entire day, so I find this purchase to be frustrating (low cutting time and chain tensioner being the biggest issue). I would purchase again but only for small cutting jobs, not large jobs.
Pros: Easy to Use, Quiet, Environmentally Safe, Powerful
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hello PhilWisco

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are sad to hear the chainsaw has not met your needs. Greenworks Pro 80V 18" Brushless Cordless Chainsaw can make up to 110 cuts through 4" x 4" pressure treated lumber. Regarding the cuts, the number of cuts per charge or run time that you receive would depend on the load acting on the saw (i.e., the thickness and type of wood being cut) as the chainsaw would use more battery power on tougher and thick objects being cut. Operator technique is also a factor and a chainsaw's tensioning system may break if the chain is not properly tensioned, or if the chain and bar are not the correct size for the saw
Please see unit specification below, for the chain.

Guide bar length: 20'' (508 mm)
Chain pitch: 0.325" (8.25 mm)
Chain gauge: .050" (1.27 mm)
Drive links: 78
Chain: 20LPX078X/95TXL078X
Guide bar: 200PXBK041/200MLBK0

Lubricating: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAGyv564RlA).

For a longer runtime, we suggest bringing a larger Ah battery or two if you are planning on taking trees out completely or maintaining larger properties. The only issues you may experience using a heavier battery is the added weight to the unit which may not be as comfortable to handle as a smaller battery.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used this saw for a few days now. Overall I am happy with the results. The 80v battery produces plenty of power for most jobs. The battery held a charge longer than I anticipated. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The saw itself is phenomenal. It has lots of torque and cuts through wood like it was butter. I cut down an 20” elm tree and it was faster and easier than my rancher 450.
However, under heavy cutting it eats through batteries like candy at Halloween. I think my shortest battery was 10 minutes.
I would buy it again knowing for thick logs I still need to have my gas saw handy.
Pros: Effective, Powerful

Pros: Convenient

Hello rock.b.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad to hear the 80V 20" Chainsaw is working well for your projects. Battery runtime can vary depending on log size, wood density, and cutting conditions. Cutting 12" to 20" logs can be demanding on the battery, and achieving 8 to 12 cuts per charge is consistent with the expected performance for this type of use.
We appreciate your input, as it helps other customers understand what to expect for similar cutting tasks. For longer runtime, using a higher-capacity battery or keeping a spare battery on hand can help maximize productivity. If you ever have specific questions or concerns about our products, contact Greenworks via Live chat on our website (www.greenworkstools.com), call us at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS) or refer to the FAQ ask section of the tool or ask us a question, anytime.

Cheaply made but great for occasional small use

Cuts amazing for small cuts, but battery is junk, less amps then my drills/impacts so won't even do 1 cut on an 18" log without going dead. Also leaks oil after after a few uses, which was entire purpose of buying electric for wife to keep in SUV living off grid and not worrying about gas smell/leaking.
Pros: Convenient, Easy to Use, Effective
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello jbeaver33.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re glad to hear the chainsaw performs well for smaller cutting tasks, but we understand your concerns regarding battery runtime and oil leakage.
The included 80V 2.0Ah battery is designed for light-duty applications, such as limbing and smaller cuts. Cutting large, dense logs (such as 18") places a high demand on the tool and will significantly reduce runtime. For this type of use, a higher capacity 80V battery (4.0Ah or larger) is recommended for improved performance and longer running time.
Regarding oil leakage, electric chainsaws still require bar and chain oil for proper operation
Some minor seepage after use can be normal, especially if the tank is filled to the top or the unit is stored on its side. This can sometimes be caused by pressure in the oil tank, worn seals, a clogged vent, or a defective oiler. Storing the saw upright, slightly loosening the oil cap, and inspecting or replacing worn seals can often help.
However, persistent leaking is not expected and may indicate a sealing issue that should be addressed under warranty.
