[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The saw itself is phenomenal. It has lots of torque and cuts through wood like it was butter. I cut down an 20” elm tree and it was faster and easier than my rancher 450.
However, under heavy cutting it eats through batteries like candy at Halloween. I think my shortest battery was 10 minutes.
I would buy it again knowing for thick logs I still need to have my gas saw handy.
Pros: Effective, Powerful
I would recommend this to a friend!

Auto Dies
on January 9, 2026

bought mine on November 16, 2021. Now i use it and it continually just dies. The battery could be fully charged and it only works for 30 seconds or so and then cuts off. Like there is an auto shut off kicking in. So frustrating. i regret the purchase. I love my Greenworks tools- except this one.

Hello Vincent123. We are sorry to hear about the frustration you are experiencing with your 80V 18" Chainsaw, especially given your otherwise positive experience with Greenworks tools. The issue you described where the unit shuts off after a short period even with a fully charged battery is not expected behavior. This can sometimes be related to battery performance, thermal or overload protection engaging, or a connection issue, all of which our support team can help troubleshoot. Please note that this chainsaw is backed by a manufacturer warranty, and our customer service team would be happy to review your situation and assist with troubleshooting or warranty support if applicable. We encourage you to contact Greenworks Customer Success at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS) or on Live chat (www.greenworkstools.com). We appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to help resolve this so you can get back to using your equipment with confidence.

works ok but the battery life is low. I cut 12" to 20" logs for bowl blanks I get 8 to 12 cuts on the battery on a good day
Pros: Convenient

Response from greenworkstools.comBy Greenworks, January 14, 2026
Hello rock.b. Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad to hear the 80V 20" Chainsaw is working well for your projects. Battery runtime can vary depending on log size, wood density, and cutting conditions. Cutting 12" to 20" logs can be demanding on the battery, and achieving 8 to 12 cuts per charge is consistent with the expected performance for this type of use. We appreciate your input, as it helps other customers understand what to expect for similar cutting tasks. For longer runtime, using a higher-capacity battery or keeping a spare battery on hand can help maximize productivity. If you ever have specific questions or concerns about our products, contact Greenworks via Live chat on our website (www.greenworkstools.com), call us at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS) or refer to the FAQ ask section of the tool or ask us a question, anytime.

Kudos for using a normal bar and chain oil reservo
on January 17, 2026

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Hey look, a totally normal bar and chain oil reservoir! With a normal screw-on cap and readily accessible location for quick and easy filling like every other chainsaw I have used over the past 45 years. Every chainsaw but one that is: the 80 Volt 16" Greenworks model that I bought last year (model # CS80L417). Its reservoir is at the front, underneath the chain brake lever, making it difficult to access. Instead of a normal screw-on lid it has a little flip-top and as an added "bonus" the hole underneath the flip-top is teeny tiny so you need use the smallest kitchen funnel you can find and have to fill it ever so slowly and carefully to avoid dousing the entire front of the machine with oil.

Hello Butterpat Sneezeweed. Thank you for taking the time to detailed feedback on this product. We apologize for the frustration caused by the bar and chain oil reservoir design on your 80V 16" Chainsaw (model CS80L417). We understand how inconvenient this can be, especially for experienced users who are accustomed to more accessible, screw-cap style oil ports. The front-mounted reservoir with a flip-top cap was designed to maintain compact form and balance while meeting safety and sealing requirements. That said, we recognize that the smaller fill opening can make refilling more difficult than expected and may lead to spills, as you described. Your comparison to traditional designs is fair, and your feedback is valuable to our product engineering team as we continue to refine usability. In the meantime, using a narrow-tip funnel or oil bottle with a precision spout can help reduce spills during refilling. If you have concerns about the oil system or believe the cap or reservoir may not be functioning as intended, we encourage you to contact Greenworks Customer Success so we can assist further. They can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools page, accessible by clicking “Chat Now” in the bottom corner of your screen, Chat with a Live Agent or by calling 1-888-909-6757. We appreciate your long-term experience with chainsaws and thank you for sharing insights that help us improve future designs.

Cheaply made but great for occasional small use

Cuts amazing for small cuts, but battery is junk, less amps then my drills/impacts so won't even do 1 cut on an 18" log without going dead. Also leaks oil after after a few uses, which was entire purpose of buying electric for wife to keep in SUV living off grid and not worrying about gas smell/leaking.
Pros: Convenient, Easy to Use, Effective
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello jbeaver33. Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re glad to hear the chainsaw performs well for smaller cutting tasks, but we understand your concerns regarding battery runtime and oil leakage. The included 80V 2.0Ah battery is designed for light-duty applications, such as limbing and smaller cuts. Cutting large, dense logs (such as 18") places a high demand on the tool and will significantly reduce runtime. For this type of use, a higher capacity 80V battery (4.0Ah or larger) is recommended for improved performance and longer running time. Regarding oil leakage, electric chainsaws still require bar and chain oil for proper operation Some minor seepage after use can be normal, especially if the tank is filled to the top or the unit is stored on its side. This can sometimes be caused by pressure in the oil tank, worn seals, a clogged vent, or a defective oiler. Storing the saw upright, slightly loosening the oil cap, and inspecting or replacing worn seals can often help. However, persistent leaking is not expected and may indicate a sealing issue that should be addressed under warranty. They can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools page, accessible by clicking “Chat Now” in the bottom corner of your screen, Chat with a Live Agent or by calling 1-888-909-6757.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought 2 18” 80volt chain saws and I am extremely satisfied with them. I will never go back to gasoline powered equipment.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I own a medium sized pecan orchard, and this is perfect for day-to-day work on the farm. Carves up branches perfectly, lasts me a few hours of work (with a backup battery). If I needed to plane any thick trunks it wouldn’t suffice, but it’s more than enough for what we need it for!
Pros: Convenient, Easy to Use, Quiet
I would recommend this to a friend!
