The saw worked well to cut up a large oak branch that fell in our yard. However, after <10 uses I noticed the crankcase is cracked and submitted a warranty claim
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review! We are glad to hear your 80V chainsaw made quick work of that large oak branch, but we are truly sorry to learn about the cracked crankcase after so few uses. Structural durability and safety are top priorities for us, and this is certainly not the experience we want you to have with our equipment. To help protect your chainsaw's housing and drive assembly during heavy-duty cutting, here are a few practical maintenance and operational tips to keep in mind. Always verify proper chain tension before and during operation, as an over-tensioned chain can place excessive mechanical stress directly on the crankcase, drive sprocket, and bar mounting studs. Additionally, ensure the automatic oiling system is delivering adequate bar and chain lubricant, as high friction and heat from cutting dense hardwoods like oak can weaken internal assembly points if left unchecked. It is also helpful to routinely clear packed sawdust and sap from under the side cover to keep air flowing and prevent thermal stress around the motor housing. For visual guides on proper chain tensioning, bar maintenance, and safe operating practices, please feel free to visit the Greenworks YouTube Channel. Since you have already initiated a warranty claim, we want to ensure it is processed as quickly as possible. If you need to provide any remaining documentation to move your claim forward, such as photos of the damage, your order details, or the serial numbers from your tool, battery, and charger, please reply directly to your open case or reach out to our Customer Success Team so we can finalize your review and get you taken care of. If you are unable to locate our email, please call 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS), or use the chat section on our website. Thank you again for your feedback. We are here to help.
This saw is better than anything you will find in the retail stores. I use this to do 8 to 10 chords a year. I only use my MS661 to fell vary large trees and the bottom third of the tree. The rest I use the 3kW saw. It is more powerful than the three small gas saws I have. You do not have the shell shock of vibration from sawing for hours like a gas saw. It is much easier on the body, wallet, and maintenance than gas. Of my 6 chainsaw, this is my go to saw for 90% of cutting. My 4 prior electric saws did not hold up, did not have enough power, and did not have enough battery. This is the first true gas replacement that I have found. I am cutting through hard New England oak and maple in large quantities.
This is my second one of these which I used to replace several 45cc gas engine chainsaws of various types. Love it. Safely climb ladders and the trees without trying to figure how to start it at the top or carry a live saw. Cuts as well as anything i have ever had.
may 18, 2026 purchased an 18" 80 V, 4.0 AH battery greenworks chainsaw, directions didnt tell me how to attach bar/chain, you tube did. altogether, took 10 minutes, fully charged batter night before. cut a small limb , cut like butter, the next day had 2 larger limbs( i kept after tree company cut down large tree ) for firewood. went through one limb, no problem , addressed the second limb, battery out of power. therefore i would give this product one star, i recommend staying with a gas powered chainsaw.
Pros: Convenient, Easy to Use

Hello Jim Ra. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It is great to hear the saw delivered strong cutting performance initially, though we understand the frustration with both setup clarity and runtime. For assembly, your feedback on the instructions is valuable, many customers do find visual guidance helpful, to further support our customers, Greenworks Tools offers a YouTube channel featuring videos on a variety of topics, including battery-powered tools, lawn care, gardening, DIY projects, and assembly guides for most of our machines. Regarding the battery performance, runtime on an 80V 4.0Ah pack can vary significantly based on wood diameter, density (hardwood vs. softwood), and cutting technique. Larger limbs, especially hardwood or partially seasoned wood, can draw substantially more power and reduce runtime compared to lighter trimming. To help maximize runtime, ensure the chain is properly tensioned and sharpened, the bar and chain are adequately lubricated, and avoid excessive pressure during cuts (letting the saw do the work improves efficiency). For heavier cutting sessions like processing firewood, having a second battery on hand is often recommended to maintain continuous operation. If the battery depleted unusually fast or is not holding a charge, we suggest reaching out to Greenworks success so they can evaluate the battery and confirm it is performing within specifications. They can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools page, or by calling 1-888-909-6757.
This was a great saw however green works stop making the low profile sawblades for it. So I ended up having to buy another one one of the newer versions.

Hello Jack357. Thank you for sharing your experience. We understand how frustrating it can be when replacement parts are difficult to find. For the 80V 10" Gen2 Pole Saw (SKU 1405802T), replacement chains are still available and use a standard spec: 10", 1/4" low-profile pitch, .050 gauge, and 58 drive links. Greenworks continues to offer compatible replacement chains for this model, and there are also third-party options (such as Oregon equivalents) that match these specifications and will fit properly. If you are having trouble locating the correct part, we recommend confirming the chain specs listed on your bar or in your manual to ensure compatibility. Our support team is also available to help identify the correct replacement and provide current availability options. They can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools page, or by calling 1-888-909-6757.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a good chainsaw. It's not too heavy and the battery lasts plenty long. I have cut through many logs.
