Super Lightweight

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband and I bought this a few months back and we're so grateful we did. We went from a pull start lawnmower to this one and it works amazing! I am so glad that I am able to mow the lawn now when my husband is not home. It's great not having to rely on anyone to start the lawnmower now, as it starts with only a click of a button. It's extremely lightweight and female friendly. I am extremely happy with our purchase.

MaximusZ 54" cuts well but has some quirks
on July 15, 2024
Posted by: jr_in
TL;DR - Cuts great & dump/storage bin is a big plus!
I've had the 54" MaximusZ one week. I ordered it after a big storm and big tree squished my prior zero-turn (Husky 54"). I'm an engineer and have pretty high expectations. Here's my take on the MaximusZ after one week of use:
Pluses:
- Electric!
- Cuts great!
- Drive speed options - it can really move!
- Blade speed - adjustable is very helpful, especially for tall grass
- Dump/storage bin - this is crazy-useful and makes the mower an effective utility cart
- Much more quiet when blades not engaged than gas zero-turn; slightly more quiet when they are
Minuses:
- Not even close to 3.5 acres on a full charge (more like 1 acre on minor hills with blades at 3 and speed at 1; but also about 90ºF).
- Very tall, sits too high (esp vs prior zero-turn mower)
- Controls jerky; precise control very tricky especially at slow speeds; hard/impossible to drive slowly in a straight line
- Reverse too slow and not calibrated well (left side even slower than right side)
- Long startup (boot) time; 4 sec or so before able to do first action
- There's a too-long delay engaging blades after pulling up the control (2 sec)
- Propping up the mower as described in the manual gives really poor access to the blades and underside of the deck. (I used a floor jack but since the front Tow accessory is very high already, the amount that the mower deck is raised is pretty minimal. I was able to hold my phone under it to take pictures but really can't "inspect the blades" very well)
- Frame around deck seems unnecessarily large; can't cut very close to objects in front of mower
- Poor battery thermal management. It's great that the suitcase batteries have their own internal fans, but then they are enclosed in a no-ventilation pocket.
- Rear tires are just poor, they spin too easily, especially on hills. Once they pick a little grass/mud they are even worse. My prior zero turn was similar and I upgraded to a more aggressive tread.
- Battery charger seems poorly engineered:
- fans run continually if plugged into mower regardless if mower is fully charged
- consumes .4-.7 watts when not plugged into mower (seems like a bit much just so it can blink the light?)
- consumes 54 watts when plugged into mower but batteries are full... just to run the fan?
- Since it's electric it could have a lot more useful features:
- level/pitch-indicator to know how to spread the torque when on an incline (hill)
- display the instantaneous (ish) power consumption so I can optimize accordingly
- for safety it needs a 'are-my-front-wheels-on-the-ground' sensor to stop the swirling blades of death; like when you go under a too-low-but-very-sturdy branch with the roll bar (ROPS) engaged
- better driving start/stop performance (just feels wrong to me, not well calibrated; feels like it glides/slides into turns)
- spinning tire detection; they should never spin in place
- much better reverse performance (wow; so annoying!)
- adaptive steering to fix that it's too easy to overcorrect steering when going slowly
- more adaptive steering... if both controls are in the same full-on position, I'm trying to go straight; help me by adapting for mower pitch
- needs some mechanism for software updates, AFAICT there's no way and some of my complaints would be pretty easy to fix with software changes

The good, the bad and the ugly

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We’ve lived in our house for 21 years, and in all that time, we’ve been through roughly one push mower every summer. 5 years ago, I sucked it up and bought a riding mower. Well, our mower-killing yard finally succeeded in trashing the rider a few weeks ago, and I needed something that would get us through the season and not cost me a minimum of 2k. This was my pick-no pull cord, no gas, no carburetor to seize up…No more fossil fuels for US, Baby! 😎 My son was very dubious-he was doubtful that it would be able to handle our massive (3/4 acres), rutted and rough yard. So here is our assessment after a week of use.
First, the good:
Comes pre-assembled!! I opened the box with trepidation, fully anticipating that I would at least need to put on wheels and/or the handle. But nope-it was ready to roll right out of the box 🙌🏼
It was easy to figure out how to seat the battery in the charger and the level indicator on the battery takes all the guesswork out of getting a full charge.
Inserting the battery is also a no-brainer, which is helpful for people like me who literally do everything backwards the first time 🥴
Incredibly easy to start-push the button, squeeze the handle, and you’re in business. No need to bend and yank a cord repeatedly like a maniac!
The tires are great and stable and the cutting path is wide. The blades made it through all but the most dense patches with ease.
The engine is both powerful and quiet.
The light is nice and bright and more useful than we thought it would be.
Now for the bad-
THE BATTERY LIFE IS TOTALLY ABYSMAL!!
I’ve used the mower 6 times in the last 4 days, and have yet to get more than 20 minutes out of a single session before the battery is a brick. Very frustrating because I haven’t even covered a third of the yard yet 😠
I’m not sure if I just won the lousy battery lottery or if all of them are equally short-lived, but this is the one area where my son’s doubts proved to be well-founded.
So I guess that’s the ugly-the mower itself is fantastic, but if I spend more time twiddling my thumbs waiting for the battery to charge than I do actually MOWING, then the grass is only getting longer and tougher to deal with in the down time.
So I would ultimately recommend this mower, but with some serious caveats about the battery. Hopefully everyone else got batteries with longer life.
Pros: Convenient, Cost-Saver, Easy to Use, Quiet, Durable, Environmentally Safe, Effective, Powerful

Hello Momof8.

Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns. We are sorry to hear about your experience with this battery. This unit provides up to 45 minutes of runtime with a fully charged 5Ah battery. Run-times varies based on grass conditions and operator’s technique. As you mentioned you are getting under 20 minutes and you have mowed 6 times in the last 4 day; the described run time could be considered abnormal. We would be happy to investigate to see why you are getting the above runtime; please contact our customer experience team by Live Chat on www.greenworkstools.com or by phone at 855-345-3934. We look forward to assisting you better.

I 30 inch riding mower.
on July 13, 2024

I have a flat 2/3 of an acre lawn with normal grass I am mowing at the 3 inch setting and mowing regularly. I can mow 1/3 of an acre on one charge. I didn't expect to have to spend an entire day mowing allowing charging times. I have had this mower two weeks.

Hello RussJB.
Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns. CrossoverT Riding Lawn Tractor with (2) 8.0 Ah, (2) 4.0 Ah batteries provides a run time of up to 1.25 Please be advised that runtime can vary depending on several factors. Runtime range can fluctuate depending on terrain, grass height, grass type, mulching, and operators’ technique etc. From March to September, it’s recommended that you mow your lawn every 7-10 days and more often if your lawn has been fertilized and frequently watered. Running the blades at Low speed can also extend runtime if needed. Also, remember that you can pop in a couple of fresh batteries if you need to go out and get that last tiny bit of mowing done. We hope the above information has been helpful.

Very poor warranty or part service

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Poor warranty would have settled just for a part that broke almost as soon as I use it. The very first time. Wanted me to drive 100 miles to a service center when all I needed was a part on a brand new machine.

Just took it out for the first time. What used to take three hours on foot to mow took only forty minutes. What would take four charges on the push mower took only half a load with this. Did not have the switch problem that other reviewers have had, thankfully. Would recommend. Fun to drive as well. Dead quiet when the blade isn't running. Very solid construction. Also the packing was done extremely well.
Pros: Convenient, Easy to Use, Quiet, Durable, Effective, Powerful
