The thermostat is used to control a dual fuel heat pump (where the thermostat decides whether a call for heat should be satisfied with the heat pump or with the gas furnace). This decision relies on a balance point temperature configured by the installer and the outdoor air temperature (either from the Internet and configured zip code or from an outdoor air sensor). Unfortunately, unlike nearly all other smart thermostats, the T6 does not display the outdoor air temperature. Hopefully Resideo engineers will decide to improve the T6 by displaying the outdoor air temperature. Speaking of improvements/suggestions, Resideo engineers may want to consider supporting a configuration option for the dual fuel furnace being either standard efficiency or high efficiency so that the thermostat's logic can more intelligently select the optimal heat source (and with Internet connectivity, the logic could factor in electricity costs and dual fuel costs, as well as respond to utility company peak demands). Competing products are better than this thermostat.
This the BEST thermostat we have ever had. Been in this house 50 years and never really liked any that we had, but this is a game changer!! Easy to see, easy to use. Interfaces with our smartphones and even with Alexa. Worth every penny!!!
I had a new T6 Wi-Fi Thermostat installed by my HVAC contractor on September 4th, 2020 last year. It stopped working completely on October 30th, 2021 and had to be replaced 1 month past the one year warranty. I would like to request that Resideo compensate me for the defective T6 thermostat as it was less than one month out of warranty. Attached is a photo of the defective thermostat.
