I'm just going to put it out there that I wanted a Nest. I built my house, and, supposedly, the HVAC company said Nest doesn't work with my furnace, so I was stuck with this steaming pile of hard plastic. I got my internet installed by Comcast, you know, the largest ISP in America. I spent 1-2 hours for 3 nights in a row to get this thing to connect to my wifi. Eventually Jerry who is apparently the guy who works for the mobile app and looks at negative reviews on the android store told me to call their support number. I did. During my first call after explaining that I've tried everything I can think of and find online, the assistant directed me to do all the steps I've previously done, but this time with him on the phone. This call ended up getting disconnected, and even though they took my name and phone number down, no one returned my call. The second time I called, I was put on hold for 45 minutes before I finally listened to my wife to just hang up and call back. When I called a third time, my call was answered right away. I spoke with a lovely woman who was very patient with me even though all I could talk about was how massively disappointing this product is. Another hour later, of walking through the same steps I've literally done 50 times at this point, she tells me to set up another phone as a hotspot, so I can at least register it. I do that, so she tells me it's definitely the wifi. To give a little more backstory. This device that has been released in the last 5 years, can only detect 2.4 GHz frequencies. During my third phone call I separated the frequencies multiple times to have a 2.4 and 5 GHz signals separate rather than acting as a single dual band signal that every other device in my house can utilize. So, she blames Comcast and tells me I need to call them to ensure it's reaching two portals...great. I do that. I could hear their disappointment as I asked if the internet that they provide to half our nation is being restricted to 2 very specific web addresses just to mess with Honeywell. They assure me it is not. I finally figured this mess out on my own by bouncing it through a wifi extender (that's farther away from the router than the thermostat is) just so it can read a very specific 2.4 GHz signal. I only endured this week of hell because you can't use 3/4ths of the features of this "smart" device without access to the internet. So now, it's connected to the internet. I still hate it. I wish it was a Nest. It's a white square on my wall that I have to touch to even see anything on the screen. Other devices I've used (Nest) detects when I'm around so I can check these things. The scheduling function is okay. Honestly, I just don't care about this device anymore. I wasted at least 11 hours just getting this piece of plastic to connect to a wifi extender to actually connect to my wifi that I don't even care what it can do. I assume the rest of the functionality is as useless as its ability to connect to the internet. The functionality is as clunky as the device looks. I can only assume Honeywell has such good marketing they've somehow wormed their way into a market while there are superior products on the market at the same price point. I miss my Nest. I hate this thing, and I can't say it enough. I hate that it stole part of my soul. I hate that it looks like a thermostat from minecraft with the screen of a 90s Game Boy. I hate Jerry. I hate that it's 2021 and I can't just tell it "hey, that's my internet" and it couldn't connect. I have so much hate in my life lately, and it's all centered around this piece of junk that is now affixed to my wall when I didn't even want it in the first place. I'm going to go call my therapist.
I only been a customer for 5 months and haven't had a chance to fully enjoy my new thermostat. But so far I'm satisfied. When winter comes, I can fully give a better review.
