T6 WiFi Thermostat has been amazing. Its so convenient, I love being able to control the temperature in our home from anywhere. By far, the best smart feature of our new construction home. Extremely user friendly and easy to use.
Easy to program and I like the app. I can program it after we leave our home if we are out for the day and then have it return to the schedule prior to returning home so I can both save energy and come home to a warm house.
The thermostat works for complex systems including multi stage heat pump systems with external temperature sensors.
But… if you are intending to use the external temperature sensor to lock out the heat pump at temperatures below 5°F [most modern heat pumps generate heat more efficiently than electric coils at temperatures down to -20 F], then you are out of luck. Similarly, if you were looking to the thermostat to see what your exterior temperature is, that’s also a no go. You have to open up the app to see that. That was surprising because I had upgraded to this model from an older 8000 series model which did have that functionality. And unfortunately, as with the older thermostat, the app will not tell you whether the emergency/backup heat is on. For that you have to look at the thermostat, so there’s no way of knowing which system is running remotely.
Perhaps one day Resideo will push a software fix to make all these problems go away?
I bought the T6 for my vacation home where I needed the ability to remotely control the thermostat as well as check on the temperature in the event of a HVAC failure. I only looked at Nest and Honeywell. My father in law has Nest so I am pretty familiar with he product. After reading and watching video reviews of the T6, the unit itself simply made more sense to me vs the very simple Nest hardware interface. You can do anything very easily on the device itself, which was important to me. Both the Nest and Honeywell apps are very good and both have great integration with Apple, Alexa etc…. For me, I love the look of the Honeywell, the hardware interface allows you to do anything very easily, the app is great and the automation integration is also very good. Additionally, both my contractor and my buddy who works at a tech home automation company both recommended Honeywell. So far I have been very pleased.
After 1 year the T6 stopped working entirely. Since under warranty, we replaced it but even the technician could not get the app to work the setup. We used it manually until I read elsewhere how bad the Android app is and that setup is easily done with an iPhone. It worked! Now we just expect the thermostat to fail next fall. Definitely not worth the money.
