Nice, but hidden features and difficult wifi setup

I bought this to replace an existing Honeywell thermostat. The builder installed a T6 downstairs and a similar but not wifi model upstairs. I was really happy to find that because they shared a wiring base, I could just pull the old unit off the bar and plug the new unit on. The unit works fine. Things I didn't like... Getting the unit connected to WiFi is a bit of a pain. The app steps you through it, but something you might not know is that the WiFi network must have a basic name. It won't connect if there WiFi network has different characters. Mine had parenthesis in it. Also, there's no documentation for which TCP ports need to be opened. This isn't an issue for most people, as most firewalls or routers from ISPs allow all outbound traffic. But if you want to block unauthorized outbound traffic, there's no documentation for the ports and protocols used by the thermostat. Additionally, I don't know if it will work behind a double NAT configuration. I also don't like how there are seeing and features hidden in an advanced settings menu. So if you want to reduce the lowest or highest temp settings of 50 and 90, you have to access those settings. You can still only go down to 40. Not a problem for me, but I've seen others complain about the 50 degrees. If you want auto-changover, you have to set it to on in the advanced settings. There are also some related settings to adjust. Auto-changover is basically Auto, which is to say, switch between heat and cooling modes automatically when the temperature reaches a threshold. This is a really nice feature in the spring and fall. That way, you don't have to wake up to a freezing house after a warm day because you forgot to set the mode to heat. To access the advanced settings menu, touch and hold "menu" on the screen. After a few seconds, you will access the advanced settings. Some of the settings are meant for an installer, but you can research what they mean on the internet to learn more about how those should be set, or you can just leave them as is if your installer has already configured them.
The T6 pro came with the house my wife and I purchased. Getting it transferred so we had access took multiple calls to Honeywell from the prior user. I understand you don't want unauthorized users controlling your thermostats but I have the code on the back of the thermostat and the random pin that only displayed on the screen. Set up was rather cumbersome and glitchy. Coming from having a Nest in my prior home made me aware just how much better that thermostat was. I would do your homework, compare comparable products, look at the features offered and the apps before making a decision to purchase this thermostat. Mine will probably be switched out within the next year.
I like this! Got it to replace an older model that could only be programmed M-F and S & S, It's great being able to program each day as I'm off F, S, S. It was a little "glitchy" setting up for android (I was told Apple is simple) but I managed it even tho I'm 55. It's handy being able to set/ adjust the temp with my phone from anywhere. The one thing I'd like to see changed is the ability to set seven day program AND use the geofence option at the same time. I'd like to be able to use my set program while I'm home AND the geofence option to raise the temp whenever I leave and return to my set program when I return.

Hi, we are sorry that you feel this way. Our team is ready to help connecting your thermostat to Wi-Fi. Visit the Support Center link at the top of the page for ways to get in touch, you will need to make sure that you have a 2.4 GHz only network with no extenders or repeaters.
I love this thermostat I can don’t have to get out of bed to adjust the temp in the house at night all I need is my cell phone one click and that’s it. I also like that you can set it so the back light stays lit so you can see what the temp is in a dark hallway without turning on a light. It has so many useful features.

I feel like its complete waste of money. It's geofence feature doesn't work so what is the point of connecting to wifi and installing app on your phone. I havr turned that feature off.
This thermostat doesn't help in saving energh cost. Seems I am still using the termostat designed in 90's.

We had two of these installed in our house. Within a few months the first one died and had to be replaced. Now within in a little over a year the second one died and will need replaced. These are junk. Im planning to change to something better and more reliable asap.
