Great for Collectors and Kids alike!

This set is awesome! I love the level of detail and the variety of characters! Also, this set is well-designed and STURDY. It is easily movable, and sturdy enough that pieces do not fall off.
It's great to get the trio, Malfoy and the Hufflepuff girl in one set, along with all of the staff members (Richard Harris Dumbledore, Susan Bones and Nearly Headless Nick are great additions to the Potter minifigure lineup!
I love that Lego has been releasing new, minor characters in the Harry Potter line, as it does with Star Wars. (Keep it up Lego!)
The accessories are also fantastic - the sorting hat is a great rendition, and the inclusion of Susan Bones really helps bring that scene to life in this model. The big cauldron and potions and Mirror of Erised are nice details for a collector, but they are also large enough to be very playable. (on that note, the tower rooms are a little small (low ceilings!), but the great hall room itself is roomy and playable)
The castle is relatively easy to build, and instantly recognizable - friends and family always comment on how it looks just like the movie!
I would like to see more additions to this Hogwarts in addition to the Whomping Willow set. Hopefully we will get another connecting piece or two in 2019.
The qualms I have with this set are (1) the lack of an alternative build and (2) the low celiengs in the tower rooms.
This is a beautiful rendition of the great hall, but the unassembled pieces are great for any Hogwarts build. I would have loved to see what "honorable mention" design the creators would have picked for the alternative.
I would have loved to be able to fit some of the great 2010-era Hogwarts furniture builds into the tower rooms (the gryffindor firepalce and library from set 4842, the fat lady from the original 4709 Hogwarts), but the celings in these rooms are too low to accomodate those. I have attached photos of a build that I was able to fit, if anyone else is looking for inspiration! House Point room (All pieces are from the current wave of HP sets)
Overall I definitely recommend this set. It's great on its own or as a piece of the larger collection with the whomping willow.

I wish that it had more to offer. It should have been bigger and had more play features, like the Basilisk battle. I was an okay build.

This Lego set was so much fun to build! I really enjoyed all the details, and that it came with 10 minfigures! I played with it all day after I finished building it. I would recommend that Harry Potter fans buy this set!

Great Set, Great Build, Excellent for Kids

I bought this for my 6 year old daughter. The look on my daughter's face said it all when she saw the constructed hall. She was in awe.
I found this to be a very involved build that took me some time. 6 large bags, bases and 2 big manuals for this build.
I really liked the mini-figs in this set a lot. Particularly, Hagrid (I just love that one), the red Dumbledore, Professor Mcgonagall, and Professor Quirrell stood out for me.
The Basilisk, Fawkes, the Sorting Hat and Mirror of Erised were great features.
I enjoyed the use of the diamond lattice window panes. They really stood out for me. It makes for a great decorative effect. And when the light hits it just right it's perfect.
Probably the only things I would have changed is how they handled the candles hanging over the Great Hall and the stairs.
The candles were really a pain to put together for someone with big hands.
The stairs just never stay open if you want to use them. My daughter did complain about those more than once.
I think they could have taken a different approach on both, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't take away from the playability of this set at all.

Good, but not great

This set has a lot of great minifigures. You get 10, being Professor Quirrell, Professor McGonagall, Dumbledore, Harry, Hermione, Ron, Draco, Susan (Who looks more like Ginny), Hagrid, and Nearly Headless Nick. The reason this is 4 stars instead of 5 is there was 1 missing part, thankfully I had a spare in my Lego bin. I also think then great hall is dark, which is disappointing.

Fun build

The Harry Potter Lego sets are all fun and easy to build, but the Great hall is by far the most easily recognizable as the Harry Potter Hogwarts image you see in all of the movies and books.
Although the price seems intimidating at first, once I spent the money and assembled the set, I realized it was worth all the money I spent. By far my favorite part about the Harry Potter Lego sets is their unique ability to attach and complete the full Hogwarts castle.
I would recommended to anyone purchasing the full Hogwarts set and even the other Harry Potter Lego sets. From an adult perspective I can successfully finish the sets quite easily, but I have been an avid Lego builder for a while now, and find most of the newer Lego sets very easy.
I did not experience any particular challenges in this set, but found that it is mostly a set meant to be displayed rather than played with.

According to my 11th year old it’s a very easy build for those that have built before. The details in the windows are nice and she really likes the dock and the boat.
