I am very impressed with this detector with 2 tone added and full disc. It makes all the difference and make separation the best. Depth is right up there. It competes with big boys that I've had.

I have spent a couple of decades behind a Whites Spectrum XLT with great results. I just purchased the VX9 and took it to a spot I have been going over for a few weeks. WOW! I am shocked at how much I missed with my Spectrum. The Vortex blew me away with accuracy and the depth it was reaching in this hard Oklahoma soil. Impressive to say the least. I also purchased the wireless headphones and love the freedom.
Thank you for this great product. I would like to suggest you tweak the desktop firmware interface just a bit. Can you make the Font size bigger for us older ones who are struggling to read the very small text? That would help alot.
My next purchase is a new pin pointer. Can't wait!

Worth 5 Stars If Not For The Cons

I really like this unit and would give it a 5 star if it were not for the four cons. First the pros ... Light, easy to handle in an open field. Plenty of nice support videos on Youtube by both Garrett & independents. Being able to identify more about what is in the ground by the multi bar screen is fantastic. Also, the packing and delivery were spot on. Now the four cons .... #1. Not being able to install a new battery pack simply sucks. Rechargeable batteries go bad or sometimes we forget to charge them or we stay out in the field for extended periods without access to electricity. That is why we metal detectorist take extra batteries on our trips. Cannot do this with the VX9. You are stuck with the one rechargeable battery pack that is permanent in the detector. The biggest improvement Garrett can make is to design an easy plug & play replaceable battery pack. #2. Many of us go out into the dense woods that will snatch everything you are carrying. The handle that includes the battery pack, screen, and controls towers above the detector rod. It reaches out and grabs everything that is looking to grab it. I am going to do a little modification to pin the tower so I can at least fold it down during travel. This should already be designed into the unit by Garrett. Also, a compact style similar to the Pro Max should be offered which will greatly reduce the snagging in wooded high growth areas. #3. The blue hardware on the detector helps draw attention. Not all detectorist such as myself like a lot of attention. The unit should be offered in all black. #4. The cord coming off the charger is only 28" long. What the heck!! The cord should be a minimum of 60" long from the charger. To charge my unit, I either have to lay the detector down or place somewhere the charger can be placed on a chair, desk, or shelf so that the cord can be used without the charger hanging in mid air.
