Great Phone
on September 13, 2012
Posted by: mobes83
It was a great phone and has lasted. After 2 years it is still going strong. About the only issue that I had with it was too little internal memory especially with how big all the usual apps are getting.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Durable
Cons: not enough internal memory
I would recommend this to a friend!

Unhappy Customer

I have had the Epic for 2 years and I am not happy at all. The quality of this phone is aweful. I had 2 updates sent to me from my mobile carrier by Samsung and once I did the update my phone locked up or froze. I couldn't make or receive calls or texts. THIS HAPPENED TWICE IN 2 YEARS! Unacceptable! Then I had to go to the store to have the issue fixed. It couldn't be fixed over the phone.
It makes a loud noise sometimes and the space is very limited. I always have to uninstall something in order to update an app on my phone. I feel I shouldn't have to.
Why do we have to have all these unnecessary apps that I don't use preinstalled on the phone and they can't be uninstalled.? I am up for an upgrade and I am trying not to buy another Samsung product ever again because of my bad experience.
I hope Samsung does better.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Lightweight
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, battery life is very poor
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Loved for 2 years now

This phone has been awesome for the past two years! I love the pull out keyboard, the large screen size, and the features for when it first came out. The only downfall was the lack of memory, only half a gb. I had to be very choosy about the programs that I kept and often had to delete some to get new ones. When updates were needed, I would have to go and delete apps to make room. I wish some of the apps that the phone came with could have been deleted then it would have been great.
Cons: not enough memory

Had the same phone previously bought used off ebay and loved it, til I dropped it and cracked the screen on concrete (ouch). Once my mom decided to have her own plan I told her I wanted the same phone and since she would be replacing her replenish, I convinced her to switch to the same phone as myself. We had to drive about 100 miles to get two new ones that were the only ones left at the time, needless to say we are both happy with our Epics :). Now I'm up for an upgrade and plan on replacing it with another samsung product and keeping my epic as back up, (just incase I drop the new one lol)
It does run a bit hot when trying to update a ton of apps at the same time, something I learned quikly was to just have sit next to my laptop that has a laptop fan cooler, and then it stays nice and cool. Also I have app ADD so it will bog once and while on me, but as long as you don't bog it down with apps the hummingbird will hum.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight, speedy when not drowing it with tons of apps
Cons: will run hot when updating 2many apps
I would recommend this to a friend!

A Good Phone, Even Years Later

I had this phone for close to 3 years before recently upgrading to the Note 3. One of the main reasons I chose this phone was for the slide-out physical keyboard. I didn't use it as much as I thought I would, but coming from a Palm Centro that had a real keyboard, it was nice to have while I adjusted to the touchscreen keyboard. My main concern with the Epic, besides the slow OS updates from Samsung, was the limited amount of memory on the device and this is what eventually pushed me to upgrade. When the Epic came out, it was a top-of-the-line phone, but its 500MB of memory (only ~300MB available to the user) isn't enough after a few years as apps continue to grow in size. If the device had more memory, I might have kept using it longer, because I usually don't upgrade devices that are working and still satisfy my needs, which it was. I'm definitely happy with my new Note 3 so far, but the Epic served me well for a long time, and I still think it's a great phone.
Pros: Durable, physical keyboard
Cons: limited memory

2 weeks and counting...and delighted every day

Waited until I gave this phone some use before I gave a review.
In one word...AMAZING!
Processing power up the wazoo, a screen that puts other phones to shame, seamless integration with all my google services - gmail, calendar, picassa, blogger...and much more.
I tend to run out of battery half way through the day, but I guess it's because I can't seem to put the phone down...nothing an extra battery can't solve (and yes you can change batteries unlike the 'other' smartphone that everyone seems to be carrying around). I even dropped the thing and like other Samsung phones I've owned not a problem.
If like me you use a lot of other google services, this is definitely the way to go. Everything you would want in a smartphone, without sacrificing anything.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Too big
I would recommend this to a friend!

Cons: battery life is short
