Honestly, best phone (possibly device) I've used

I find the phone incredible capable as a phone (not always a given), computing device and media device. Terrific codec support, brilliant screen, amazingly fast (can't imagine on 2.2) and well organized. This is my first Android device, so they get some of the love (previous hard-core Palm fan from Palm V through the Centro). I evaluated (i.e., bought and returned) the Samsung Moment - the Epic is on a totally different planet. Andorid went from very frustrating to delightful experience on the two devices.
Yes the battery life bites - so I have the wall charger to keep one battery fresh and I plug in when I'm at my desk. Yes I would rather not have to think about and only plug in at night. The overall experience is worth it.
There are two issues other than battery: I live in a 4g wired city and get a mixed signal - I usually run off of wifi since it's so prevalent here.
GPS has issues and takes awhile to lock.
However, on day to day use, the device simply shines.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Lovely, but flawed

I bought this phone full of excitement that I'd be able to join in on the Augmented Reality revolution. Unfortunately, the digital compass - an essential piece of kit in any AR capable phone - is perpetually jittery and inaccurate, rendering any AR layers I'm viewing completely useless.
Otherwise, it's a nice phone. I'd like more 4G availability if I'm going to be obliged to pay for it, but overall I'm satisfied with the form factor and features.
Software-wise, I'm disappointed that Android 2.2 wasn't included in the package, and since I'm having no luck getting this phone to update itself to the current release (it's inexplicably stuck on a twice-out-of-date release) I don't think I'll be able to get Froyo when it IS rolled out.
If you're considering an Epic, wait a while. I took the early adopter plunge, and got a buggy phone for my troubles. Maybe in January 2011 it'll be a piece worth owning.
Pros: Bright display, nice design
Cons: buggy software, defective internals
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Many options but one solution

It's like the device was built specifically for me. For over a month I have stress tested my Samsung Epic, and yet has it disappointed me.
So many good things....Great Screen,Voce Recognition & Swipe...Fast Internet & Email is always there. Love that I could buy a "charger" for a spare battery & Battery Life is better than most. Speaker not great and playback of voice mail not clear... Horrible Calendar for such a feature rich phone--don't know why I have to spend hours researching other's opinions on a new "App" that may or may not work, is not supported by Sprint or Samsung necessarily and if I have to reset the phone I have to re-purchase the App (oh, I bet there is an App I can buy for that too). Still missing features of Windows (Touch Pro 2). High volume business user -- can leave my laptop behind for a few days. HATE that I cannot see what time a text was received or forward a text. Overall Great Phone!
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Durable, Realistic color
Cons: horrible calendar, text thread doesn't always see time received, speaker
I would recommend this to a friend!

As you can see, as of 12/28/2010, the Epic STILL doesn't have Android 2.2 Froyo. There have been many projected dates for release come and go, without any action. If you want to be able to use FLASH, don't get this phone. Get an HTC EVO, instead. It's just as good, if not better. I have the Epic, and have experienced nothing but frustration over this Android 2.2 upgrade issue. It shouldn't be like this, so do yourself a favor, and don't buy the Samsung Epic.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
Cons: expensive, seems to not be able to be updated.
Such quality went into the making of this phone. I think I'm in love..the screen is the most captivating part of this when you first see it! Everything is easier to read and navigate through. The speed of connecting while on the internet is just as amazing. The media hub by Samsung is very impressive. I simply cannot say enough about the quality of this phone. It even feels like a solid piece of technology in your hands.. I am definitely sold on Samsung products all around. They certainly live up to their namesake!
GPS is horrible. Screen flickers at full brightness with the option to save battery in display is off. No Froyo update. Battery life is horrible if you use the phone. Everyone says just dont use it, keep all the options off and the screen off and it will last all day!!!!!! YEAH!!! I can have a full day battery if I leave the phone at home on standby. SWEET Samsung! Bah. Garbage.
Pros: keyboard is nice
Cons: Did not meet expectations, gps, battery, screen flickers
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

THIS PHONE FORGOT IT'S A PHONE

I WANTED A SMARTPHONE AND I AM NOT AN APPLE FAN. WHEN I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THIS PHONE,I THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT. HOWEVER, COMING FROM THE SIMPLE LIFE OF THE MOTOROLA RAZR, I THOUGHT I'D BE IN HEAVEN. NOT SO. AFTER READING ALL OF THE SUPERB REVIEWS, I BOUGHT ONE. HIGHLY OVERRATED PHONE. IT FORGOT IT'S A PHONE ABOVE ALL. THE SOUND QUALITY IS VERY POOR FOR PHONE CALLS ESPECIALLY DURING SPEAKER USAGE. I CANNOT SELECT A LIST OF PEOPLE FROM MY CONTACT TO TEXT AT ONCE. I MUST CHOOSE EACH ONE BY ONE. POOR FEATURE OR LACK THEREOF. I CANNOT CREATE FILES WITH MY PICS TO SEND A COMPLETE FILE. YES IT IS GREAT AS A MINI COMPUTER. OK GPS BUT A LOUSY PHONE. PHOTO QUALITY POOR/POOR/POOR. THE HTC IS MUCH BETTER. DON'T PAY THE HIGH PRICE FOR THIS PHONE.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, great small computer
Cons: Poor quality, Not high def, Did not meet expectations, too expensive
