Almost Great

Easy set-up and activation. Tweaking settings was not quite as simple. Runs Android 2.1 OS with no sign of the 2.2 update on the horizon. This is a problem because some apps will only run on the Galaxy S with the 2.2 OS. Love the slide-out keyboard with keys big enough for my fingers. Battery life is less-than-hoped-for and active GPS apps will drain it in short order. Goes way beyond a simple cell phone. Great display, but a little sluggish at times. Overall, a very good, but not-quite-great phone.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight, versatile

It seems to me that keeping up with operating systems should be a high priority from a marketing view alone. If a phone is going to cost more and performs slower just because it's running an older operating system, it makes it more difficult for customers to make the Samsung the selection. This phone would be unstoppable if had the current (for a long time) operating system and maybe a higher resolution camera.
Pros: Bright display, keyboard
Cons: old operating system, 5mp camera can't keep up

Had great potential but has one major flaw....its maker.
Months after all others got froyo , galaxy s line is still waiting , completely unacceptable support.
I will never buy another Samsung phone , and most likely anything else from Samsung.

Excellent phone

Phone is very light weight and fits good in the hand. I really like the option of a touch screen or QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard is large and has function keys to operate (home, back, etc) without needing the touch screen. I really like the dedicated number buttons and common grammatical symbols without hitting a function key. Both work flawlessly and swype is a great feature. The screen is very bright (as advertised) and sound quality with calls is very crisp and clean (no noise). I've yet to drop a call.
The battery has worked very well for me.. I keep my phone connected to Wi-Fi at home and don't plug it in at night. It maybe drops a quarter of the battery life being on for 7-8 hours with minimal applications running (sync email and Wi-Fi).
I really like the drop down menu from home screen to turn on/off major functions (Wi-Fi, 4G, maps, etc). It is very easy to manage running applications and the phone comes with a program to enhance battery life.
the smoothness and transitions when using the touch screen are phenomenal. Phone is very fast and 4G works great in my area. It is very fast and allows viewing of streaming video.
Would like to have had the phone with the most recent android 2.2. functions and media hub running, however, they say it will be released in the near fuiture.
There are plenty of apps to choose from and I really like the spint football, TV, NASCAR functions.
this is a great phone for work or play.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great features and phone, Battery life less than desirable

This a great product. Really needs to have an option for an extended battery. Even with ensuring that no apps are running in the background or very minimal apps running my battery only lasted til noon from a a full overnight charge.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Realistic color
Cons: Did not meet expectations, battery hog

Best phone ever

This isn't a phone....it is a tiny laptop with a phone and camera. The only downfall is the short battery life and the fact that the juice sucking apps do not shut off when you exit them. You have to go in and shut them down yourself each time you get done with an app or the internet or even if you just turn your phone on otherwise your battery seems to die in just a couple of hours. If all the apps are off and you just use the phone to text or talk it has lasted 2 days. Otherwise you are charging it every day or twice a day.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: poor battery life

Review after 1.5 months use. Summary: Good hardware, software needs revisions.
Hardware: Feels solid. Keyboard feels good & responsive. Good keyboard layout. Screen is beautiful if oversaturated. Brightness doesn't go low enough. (i.e., still blinding at night.)
Software: Touchwiz is better than expected. It feels intuitive. Battery life out of the box is poor. However, I don't think that's the hardware's fault. The phone used 10% battery charge per hour just on standby without using the phone at all! The latest firmware update brought limited results. However, after killing the DRM and media hub processes I can now make it a full 24 hours on standby and 4 - 6 hours with moderate to heavy use.
Recommendation: I kept the phone past the 30 day return period. However, if the EVO had a keyboard I would have switched. If you are good at searching the support forums for tips and are willing to tinker and experiment, it's a good phone. Future software updates may make the phone fantastic.
Pros: great keyboard, beautiful color, clear phone call quality, can see display in sunlight
Cons: software is a battery hog, no froyo yet, too bright at lowest setting, no fm radio

Definitely not worth the money as being one of the most expensive phones on the market. Can never find the "4G" service and I am still charged a premium for this service that doesn't work. GPS hasn't worked in 2 months and they apparently know about it but can't do anything about it. The location of the phone in reality is off by 3 miles according the phone itself. I went downtown St Louis this past weekend and the GPS put me into a real bad neighborhood and I had to call a friend and get directions over the phone to where I needed to be. Really scary incident for being in St Louis.
Cons: Poor quality, Too big, Did not meet expectations, gps doesn't work
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
