great hardware but poor software support... seriously, what happened to Android 2.2? This is really terrible support for a supposed Flagship phone. Samsung will never ever get my business again.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Did not meet expectations, poor software support. where's froyo
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It is the best phone I've had. Can't wait for Android 2.2 though. The battery has been fine with mine. the screen is awesome and the phones apps are blazingly fast. I can only imagine how fast it will be when I get 4G in my area.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Neat, but poor battery life due to bug

This model phone's firmware has a bug that can deplete a fully charge battery in an hour or two. This shows up as a "Cell Standby" battery usage of >50%, even with perfect reception. A temporary fix is to toggle "Flight Mode" on and then off after you power on the phone. Samsung has issued two firmware upgrades to add additional features, but has yet to fix this issue.
The phone also sometimes won't exit camera mode at which time the battery has to be pulled.
Cons: poor battery life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

BEWARE: No OS support
on January 11, 2011
Posted by: Bloomington
There is absolutely no OS support for this phone. Android 2.3 is already on a Samsung phone and this phone has yet to get 2.2.
Battery life is terrible. The phone and SAMOLED is a battery drainer. Good luck trying to get more than 4 or 5 hours with this phone out of the box. You basically have to turn everything off to get this phone to make it through 8 hours. I pretty much regret buying this phone and would return it, if I could.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, battry life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I was Disappointed Mike

Note: Samsung does not allow you to edit your reviews. I gave my first battery about a week. Then I swapped it for a new one. The new one had the same issue, it wouldn't keep the phone on for more than 5 hours without any use. After about 5 charge cycles though, the new battery started to perform better. Now I can get over 12 hours of standby use. This phone is awesome. It's too bad no one could explain to me what was happening or that I needed to give it a chance.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This product is a disapointment

Samsung has released there flag ship phone with android 2.1 and has not updated while all other manufactures have provided updates to froyo 2.2 this is very disapointing for a phone that has great hardware features. Android 2.2 is a sinificant update it provides better performance more stability and the ability to store programs on storage card. Now android has released ver 2.3 and the Epic has not even got 2.2 this will be my last Samsung. And the few samsung phones that have been updated to 2.2 have experianced issues that have rendered the device inoperable by wiping the memory of the device
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, no froyo andoid 2.2

Serious GPS, WiFi and 3G issues
on September 25, 2010

First off I love a bunch of things about the phone such as the speed and hardware but that is where the greatness ends.
The GPS is easily the worst in it's class, I used a program called GPS test on my wifes Android Phone (unnamed manufacture due to Samsung guidelines to post) and my Epic. The other android phone locked to 10 satellites immediately and the Epic never was able to lock to more than two. GPS test was conducted using GPS Test, available from Android Market.
The WiFi constantly disconnects while the other android phone never has any issues, I can be sitting next to my wireless router and my Epic never shows a full signal.
The EVDO (3G) is SLOW!!!!! especially compared to the other android phone, my upload speeds will never go above 150 kbps while my wife's android phone will easily do 500-600 kbps. The download speeds are almost as bad with my Epic rarely ever getting above 300 kbps and my wife's android phone in the same area getting 700-1000 kbps. The speed test results were conducted by Speed Test (Speed Test.net) found in the Android Market.
The Epic has a lack of halfway decent widgets and Samsung even skimped out on widgets found on other Galaxy S phones. The calendar is horrible and doesn't give you the option of defaulting events to Google Calendar. Touchwiz on the Epic doesn't allow you to change launch icons and the home screen can not be used in landscape mode unless the hardware keyboard is used.
I have all Samsung appliances in my house and all of my TV's are Samsung. I am not a Samsung hater, to the contrary, I love almost all of their products but the Epic has some serious issues that need to be fixed ASAP or I will never buy another Samsung phone again.
