Good Phone, not great

I really like my Samsung Epic 4G Phone but there are a few downsides to the phone. The automatic rotating of the screen from portrait to landscape sometimes takes longer than I would expect it to. The keyboard seems to slide out just a little too easy; I think I would have liked it a bit more firmer. Overall a great phone; love the colors - very bright, the camera takes great pictures and the GPS seems to work very well.
I have had every phone imaginable..... Let me tell you that when I purchased the Epic it was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. It is easy to manage my business, social and personal life right at my fingertips!!!! I love the design...it's not bulky or heavy and it's stylish!!!!
I upgraded from a htc hero and man I love this phone. The beautiful screen and nice big full slide out keyboard. Battery life isnt half bad either. I can get through a full shift at work and have plenty of battery left to spare. I chose this phone over the evo because of the slideout keyboard. Best product ive ever owned so far. Keep it coming samsung!!
So I came to Sprint as a disgruntled T-Mobile customer who wanted truly unlimited data, without throttling or data caps. I did plenty of research and had to make a compromise because of several issues.
I had a MyTouch 4G with T-Mobile which was an awesome phone, yet as previously mentioned I was limited by my carrier. I switched early in April 2011 and knew that the dual core Android phones showcased at the MWC and CTIA shows were set to release this fall with only a slim chance of a summer release. My choices were the EVO, EPIC, and the Echo...
The EVO was nice and was from HTC which I had great experience with in the past but after seeing benchmark tests for both I had to consider the EPIC. I know with custom roms both could be monsters but the EPIC has a edge when it comes to 3D games and playing movies. Also being able to natively play AVI video files won me over because I watch a lot of movies while on the go. The physical keyboard wasn't too big of an issue between the two because I regularly use swype so until I actually owned it I didn't consider it an essential item. So I guess in the end what sealed the deal for me was the fact that, knowing I was going to root, that I was getting a better screen with a better GPU and more features including a physical QWERTY keyboard and awesome camera.
I mentioned the Echo only because it was a 4G handset available at the time of my purchase, but honestly with Kyocera's reputation and actually demoing the phone I believe it's just a horrible waste of plastic...period.
After owning the phone for a month the only issues I have had are with the battery. The phone works awesome with only one disclaimer. The amount of RAM available is only about 2/3 of what is in the phone so before the root and custom ROM I had lots of issues with the home screen loading after closing applications and was constantly using the integrated Task Manager.
So the phone would be a 5/5 with a few exceptions. A phone of this caliber shouldn't have to be rooted to run smoothly. Also the stock Browser checkerboards when zooming or scrolling. While talking about stock apps the music player lacks several essential feature like an equalizer and locked screen widget. Just food for thought as we look forward to the next generation of handsets.
Excellent product. Highly recommended!! I have no idea how Blackberry people still use that fossil of an OS for their mobile. Android is at the very least the gold standard for OS and continues to be the future.
I have had my Epic for about 2 months and am so pleased, that today I finally bought the other product I have been wanting for many months, a tablet. Today, after much research, I choose the Samsung Galaxy Tab. And, I expect to be just as pleased with it as I have been with the Epic.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight, easy to navigate, pocket size, works great with headphones/mic
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great product. My wife, father in law and myself all have this phone and we love it. It has a great screen and amazing features. I would not trade this for an iPhone for anything. The only thing I wish was a little bit better was the battery life but if you make sure to close all programs after use then this is not too big of a deal.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Realistic color
