Misleading packaging

Having recently completed the Disney train station, Which I enjoyed I decided to purchase another train build. I opened the box and I was shocked that there was no train tracks included with this set. On the front of the box the train is on a track. If this had been my first LEGO train set I would have to purchase track separately? This just doesn’t make sense, a train with no track. But this is my only complaint. There is a big difference in price between the Disney train and the Hogwarts train, so I was expecting the final product to be a little less detailed. I plan on motorizing this train, so I appreciate that the cart that takes the motor is easy to convert after ordering a dozen or so red pieces(YouTube video instructions).
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love it, except...

I loved building this, I love looking at it, and it’s a great addition to any Harry Potter collection. The ONLY downside it that the train can’t be motorized like the Disney train. Other than that, it’s pretty perfect, very detailed, and a lot of fun.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The set was very and I mean very inaccurate with the passenger car for two reasons: the doors are too small for minifigures to fit through and also the seating should ne closed off and a little more private, but on the bright side I love the exterior and next time maybe add tracks. I cant wait to see what other amazing sets will come out this summer. One suggestion is a Star Wars republic gunship collectors series set.

Ok for living on a shelf

My son bought this set as he's a huge Harry Potter fan. The Hogwarts express is grand, he loves playing with it, its sturdy and pretty much does everything he wants it to. The station, however, falls apart if you so much as look in its direction. He now refuses to play with it as it needs rebuilt every time he goes near it. For a set costing as much as this one, that's more than disappointing. I'm sure sitting on a shelf for an adult or teenage collector, this set as a whole would be fine, however as an actual toy, it falls vastly short.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The only downside.. the stickers. I'd much rather all pieces come preprinted.

Hogwarts Express Disappointed Design Issues

Well a massive Harry Potter LEGO fan here, really disappointed in the overall design & finish of this train.
PROS: Station is amazing that is about all, I did like the dementor which you can see has been copied from the Pirates of the Carribean, Silent Mary set oh and the stickers were cool too.
CONS: it's unpractical and several faults which ill explain in more detail.
Carriage Connection: they have moved away from the easy magnet connect system that works so well on all their other LEGO train sets making it easy to pull apart and change where you put the rail carriages.

Wheels: Seriously why... The Middle wheel doesn't even turn when rolling along on surfaces. due to the design, it is NOT COMPATIBLE with any of the LEGO train tracks so its pretty much a train that doesn't need trains.
4708 Hogwarts Express still be the best LEGO Harry Potter train they have designed and would recommend anyone buying that over this any day. Even if you have to buy it on eBay second hand.

Hi there! All the wheels on your train should be spinning, and you should be able to use it on LEGO® tracks A-Okay. If the train isn't working like it should, it sounds a little rebuilding might be in order. You’ll want to make sure that each part is in the exact position shown in the instructions and that everything pressed together tightly (except the wheels, which need some room to turn). You should have much better results!

Every time I picked up this set to move it, I found that it would fall apart every time and the design is inaccurate to the movies and so is the Hogwarts castle. But I love every other Lego series but I guess the Harry potter series was not good enough. I would recommend this set to younger builds such as ages 5+.
