Works okay but you need to add a filter bag or it's hard on your pump. Also the hose falls apart after only a season and a half of use

Mixed Feelings about Wall Mounted Surface Skimmer

I've purchased two of these skimmer filters in the 4+ years that I've owned my pool and I've had mixed results. The first skimmer was set up with an Intex pool that we'd inherited when we purchased our house; 20' diameter with a 3000 gph Intex sand filter (with two input lines feeding the filter). The second was set up feeding a slightly larger Coleman pool but using the same sand filter and overall setup.
Regardless of which pool the skimmer has been installed on, the overall design feels to be lacking. When the skimmer is installed on one of the two intake valves there isn't always enough suction for the skimmer portion to work appropriately; the blue "floating" portion of the filter may collect debris, but it is entirely dependent on the amount water flowing over the top and into that catch basin. Most of the time the suction is not sufficient to have water flow over the top, and either water is just flowing underneath the debris guard or is filling the reservoir from the flaps on the bottom of the unit.
I've attempted to block off the flow from the other inlet - to increase the amount of water / suction coming in through the unblocked inlet - but then I felt that the sand filter was not getting nearly as much water pulled into it.
When working, the skimmer can be VERY effective at getting surface debris (leaves, insects, cottonwood cotton), but it also can get clogged very quickly.
I should note that we suggested this same model of skimmer filter to family friends, and although they have a slightly smaller pool it seemed to work better with their overall setup. They have a smaller Intex sand filter (due to the smaller pool size), but they'd blocked off the 2nd inlet and had their entire pool water going through the skimmer filter and sand filter.
I would recommend this to a friend!
