WiFi issues that seem neverending

This product is connected to my wifi, but for no logical reason it will lose wifi connection and there will be no way for me to resolve the issue. When I press MENU, the wifi internet option doesn't even come up. So, I can't even reset it when it happens. If i didn't know better it happens every time they run an update to the unit. I could be wrong. Regardless, this item presents so many problems with the internet connection and no way to resolve it that I would never recommend this product to anyone.

Absolute garbage

When it works, it’s fine. When it doesn’t, I cannot adjust temp or get into the menu. The touchscreen stopped responding. Some buttons do work but only if you know exactly where to push below or to the side of it. Troubleshooting guide mentions nothing about if the screen doesn’t work, any other solutions I’ve found require you to access the menu, which guess what, is one of the buttons that doesn’t work. Would not recommend.

Dead after 1 year

The thermostat died after 1 year (has 26.5v power but display is dead). They only honor the warranty to pro installers. If you are a qualified diy you are out of luck. Also the thermostat defaults to a system restart when switching from heat pump to aux heat (gas) so you have a 5 min lag in heat

Hi, thanks for the review. The VisionPRO® 8000 THERMOSTAT WITH RedLINK® TECHNOLOGY can control commercial and residential comfort systems and should only be handled by a trained professional to ensure it is appropriately installed.

I have used Honeywell 8000 thermostats for many years, they are reliable and easy to use especially the new Vision Pro 8000. Most of the negative reviews I have read are operator error. All a thermostat is is a smart switch, it is not a magic box or a mind reader. It will only do what you tell it to. Most other brands are insanely difficult to set up and program. This one is easy just follow the prompts and don't try to out think it. If the Vision Pro 8000 is too hard for you to program then have an HVAC tech, change it to the non -programmable setting, he or she can do it after servicing your furnace / heat pump, and CHANGING YOUR FRIGGIN FILTER. These are great thermostats but the background settings need to be set up by an experienced HVAC tech. who knows your equipment and listens to YOUR needs and expectations, it is not a home owner / average Joe install. Yes, I am a tech. a 40 year in the HVAC industry tech, I've installed a few thermostats, and have a bit of knowledge. That being said, I am not a fan of any WiFi or wireless thermostats, but when a customer needs that feature, I install the Honeywell Vision Pro 8000 WiFi version. I really hate seeing Eccobees or Nest thermostats because I know they were most likely installed, and set up wrong by a noob,or they wouldn't be on the wall.

My husband raved about the features on this thermostat but I did not want a "learning" or Wi-Fi enabled unit since we're home all the time and it's simply overkill and they're often rife with issues. Twice now in the past 6 months the thermostat has gone into hold temp and recovery mode with no way to disengage it while furnace forced into limbo and no air movement. Other than taking panel off and replacing the 4 AA batteries. Then poof, it started to work again. This is the first tstat I've ever had to replace batteries so often for and I looked after all of the ones in my old office space, those were 2 AA's maybe once every year or more (also programmed all of those commercial units so I'm not a noob). This unit having 4 batteries PLUS a CR cell battery I couldn't even figure out how to get to leads me to believe this is NOT for DIY use The only people who seem to rave about this thing are HVAC pros so I will leave it to them to have their love affair with it, I've since bought a simple non-Wi-Fi unit that husband will install when weather gets a bit warmer soon. For average folks like us who don't need a learning tstat with vacation modes or Wi-Fi this unit proved to just have too many bells and whistles (probably why it uses so many batteries and maybe why they drained so fast) and I can only see this thing useful if one of the people who live in the house works in HVAC.

Too smart

Had this for a few years. Love adjusting it from my iPhone. Here’s the problem: When I set it to “cool to 72 degrees at 7pm,“ I want it to start cooling at 7pm and run till it reaches 72. Noooo, it’s too “smart.” It tries to ARRIVE at 72 degrees at 7pm, so it starts cooling hours earlier based on what it has “learned” about how long my house takes to cool. My electric rate triples from 2:00 - 7:00pm to discourage peak A/C use, so it’s costing me big money. I constantly battle to outwit it’s smartness, but it keeps changing its “lead time.” If it had a “don’t anticipate” setting it would be perfect. Without such a setting, it’s an expensive nuisance.

Hi, thanks for reaching out! Your thermostat is using our adaptive intelligent recovery function, which can be disabled. Simply follow these steps on your thermostat:
1. Touch MENU and select Preferences. 2. Use the down arrow to navigate to Adaptive Recovery and press Select. Follow the prompts to make the desired adjustments to the setting. 3. Touch Done to save and exit.

After Honeywell did a upgrade for this unit my iPad will no longer see it or work with it and no matter how many times I ask Honeywell wants no part of dealing with it. If you have this same problem let me know as I’m trying for a class action suit. Now I have to go buy a new thermostat and you can bet it won’t be a Honeywell,Lennox has been recommended and will be what I will get. Remember, pass this along, if you need to join the suit let me know, this is pure rip off and they can’t get away with it.

I have been an HVAC technician for over 36 years. I have experienced many different thermostats. With out a doubt, I think that the Honeywell VisionPro 8000 thermostat is a great product. Easy to program and adjust. Very user friendly. I have had 2 of these in my own home for 6 years and love them. . You can over pay for one of those thermostats with the fancy name and a high tech graphic display if you like. Or, you can buy a product that was designed to control the comfort of your home. Isn’t that the idea anyway?
