Why 3.5? Because the first unit we brought home was DOA. Fortunately the store manager where I returned the unit allowed me to do a straight swap from another unit off the shelf without even having to do any paperwork returning my old unit to the store's "damaged inventory" since I'd literally just purchased it that day. Performance-wise this is absolutely the quietest laminator I've ever used. You can barely hear the the process at all. That's way cool; well ok - hot! While it may be quiet it's certainly NOT fast... When I purchased this originally we needed full 8.5"x11" sheets laminated the following day (again - THANKS to the manager of the store for getting us back in business after the DOA incident!) It takes this unit a significant amount of time to warm up to "ready" status - we're talking go get a cup of coffee and drink it while playing a card game with friends time here and then laminating a single letter-sized sheet of paper takes about 90-120 seconds. So SLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWW That being said the recovery time after laminating a page of the largest size the unit is designed to take is a little better than expected at only around 1-2 minutes. My prior laminators seemed to take longer to recover than to laminate but this unit seems about equal on those times. So... Pros = Good price/value Super quiet relatively quick recovery time At least my Staples' customer service Cons = Unpredictable reliability that in my case included a DOA longer than usual initial heat-up time to reach a 'ready' state Not a lot to look at but honestly that's not why this is purchased. Had I not had a DOA unit as my initial purchase I'd give this model a 4 - 4.5 stars.

I have had this laminator for 4 years. I laminate almost everyday. It is a little slow 4 years later but it is a great laminator.
