Makes only a handful of ice, very Bad.

Only makes a handful of ice, then gets stuck in defrosting mode. Where it melts all the ice it has made previously.

Beware if you live in hot weather

Only works if air around is cool. Even in a good ventilated location it overheats and stops producing ice and goes into "defrosting" mode. Once that happens you need to unplug it for a while until it cools and resets itself.
The only way to get this machine to work properly in a tropical area where AC is not on all the time was to purchase a desk fan to blow air towards the unit. In addition had to put it on an automated outlet to cut power at night to "reset" by itself.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Makes noises and the motor freezes up

I love love the ice but the machine itself is making terrible noises and the motor freezes up. I am in the process of working to get it replaced, so we'll see how that goes...

My husband and I share the opal ice machine. I am always getting ice with my drinks now because I love the perfect nuggets. They are soft and keep drinks very cold. If you are having a crowd, make ice ahead of time, save it and keep making it. The machine makes ice quickly and can keep up with refills. It just isn't enough ice for the first round of drinks. Simply make it ahead. The machine is fast.

The unit was bad out of the box. It sounded like a chainsaw and absolutely that loud could hear it across the house and it didn't make ice send it back.
