We own two of these great icemakers!

These are great icemakers!!! We have found, the hard way, that the quality of water you put through the system is important. If you have hard water in your area you must use some type of water filtering system to filter out the calcium and magnesium. The scale inhibiting filter sent with the icemaker is not enough. I use a Zero Water filter system because it specifically filters hard water. You will never have a problem. Love the little ice nuggets!!!

Water quality is an important factor when using the Opal icemaker. The best water you can use is distilled. Using distilled will lengthen the time between sanitizing and descaling cycles.

Biofilm

I have had this product for over 3 years and have been religious about cleaning. Unfortunately these units still have biofilm build up and there is no way to complete clean the unit without taking it completely apart and dedicating 3+ hours to cleaning. When you use the clean cycle, the water does not get to all the places and biofilm will build up. This does not have a clean in place feature and the UV light doesn't work. Do Not Buy!

We'd like to help you with your Opal cleaning process. We recommend only using distilled water in your Opal to help reduce the potential for mineral buildup. It is recommended that you follow the instructions in the owner’s manual for your unit regarding the schedule of running descaling and sanitizing cycles. Using vinegar in the descaling cycle can help break up the minerals as well.

It’s important to note that distilled water is different from bottled water, reverse osmosis water, filtered water, or spring water. All of these other options contain varying levels of minerals that can build up in the unit and impede optimal operation. Using distilled water reduces the frequency of descaling and cleaning. Using our scale-inhibiting filter, part P4INKSFLTR, is designed to increase the time between cleanings and reduces the solidification of scale.

It is recommended that there be at least 4” of clearance in the back, on both sides, and above the Opal to allow proper air flow so that the fan can move air about the unit.

For additional assistance, we recommend calling our Opal team at 1-866-907-6718.

GE Profile Opal 2.0 Nugget Ice Maker W/ Side Tank

Great machine for quick ice. Quiet machine. Easy to put together. You don't need the filter as I was told from GE when I called to ask why it didn't come with a filter. My water is already filtered.
Wish the ice pieces were a bit bigger though. They melt quickly so stock up if possible. If you put some in a ziplock bag, they will form to a block but easily able to break it up & have some chunks. The side tank works great. No complaints so far & I've had it for 2 weeks. Seems like a good machine & my mother just loves it as well.

We are glad to see that you are loving your new Opal, nothing beats the delicious nugget ice this unit provides. For the best performance and to help keep your Opal running optimally, we recommend using distilled water in your Opal to help reduce the potential for mineral buildup.

It is also normal to notice the ice melt after a while, the melted ice is then reused to make additional ice. We're confident that you are going to enjoy your Opal for many years to come.

Worked great, for 2 months....
on April 16, 2021

It worked and for 2 months. Now the pump has quit pulling water out of the reservoir. They sent me a fix to reset the pump. Apparently, it will be an everyday event if we’d like it to keep making ice. Totally unacceptable for a new unit. I did speak with someone at Onpoint. It took an hour on hold. Still no answer to the email request I sent on Monday.

I am on the third ice maker in less than six months and non have worked. They do a good job sending a replacement unit but they don’t work either. Starts to make a few nuggets then quits. Extremely disappointed with GE.

Product failure after 1.5 days
on April 14, 2021

I purchased two units, one of them lasted for 1.5 days prior to failing. Replacement process documentation is underway with third party company (not GE) & I'm being told that it may take up to 6 weeks to receive a new unit?

Don't drop the ice bucket
on January 12, 2021

Easy to set up, clean, and get going. However, after 2 days the ice bucket got bumped as we were refilling the water and it cracked when it hit the floor and broke off the grey handle. I called support and all I got was, sorry, you can buy a new one. Returned it. If you have kids or pets be careful, the parts break easy.
