Screaming Eagle
on January 19, 2026

I love the look and ease of the machine. I think GE should co brand with Harley and call it the screaming eagle because this thing will wake the neighbors up when it gets upset. Mine is a month old. Disappointing as I cannot get but a few cups of ice before the noise happens.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This machine has the ability to make ice very efficiently. We’ve had at least 20 people over on multiple occasions, and with the added side tank, we’ve never ran out of ice.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love this product when it actually wants to work. I use the water it says to use, I clean when the light shows up, I descale when and How i should, and there’s a problem every other week. I just bought a new filter 2 weeks ago, my app says itS good, but the machine will not make ice with it in.

Loud
on January 26, 2026

Noise level and the instructions are not specific to the machine. 1. I followed the online instructions to connect to WiFi. It kept asking for certain numbers on the back of the machine , that were not there. After researching online and reading comments from the community figured it out. 2 the cleaning button continues to blink. The instructions indicate a 55 min descaling process .. never happened. This is too loud and too much work for ice cubes. Sending it back

We’re sorry to hear you’ve had multiple issues with your Opal, and we’d like to assist. Information about connecting to WiFi can be viewed on page 14 of the manual, linked here: https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--ICQ21ZKI--/dc06c26a71060819d54b8d9bf6c53eb64be9dce9.pdf. If you need any further assistance with getting connected, our Connected Home Support Line is available at 1-800-220-6899, Monday -Friday 9am - 11pm ET, Saturday - Sunday 9am - 3pm ET. They would be glad to assist with any issues related to connectivity.

The manual also has information about care and cleaning, including descaling, starting on page 7. If the unit won’t proceed through the descaling process, or is still indicating it needs to be descaled after you complete that process, we recommend disconnecting the Opal from power for three to four hours before reconnecting; this resets it and can often solve an issue.

We have information about what sounds you may hear at this link: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=35276

Your feedback regarding your experience will be shared with our product team, and we’ll also be reaching out over email to discuss your situation further. Please respond at your earliest convenience, so we can assist.

My ice maker tells me to add water even when the side water tank is full. To add to the fun, their online and phone support are useless.

If you have the scale inhibiting filter installed, try removing it and descale and sanitize the unit as mentioned in the Owner's Manual on pages 7-9 - https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--ICQ21ZKI--/dc06c26a71060819d54b8d9bf6c53eb64be9dce9.pdf - Please contact us directly if you continue to have an issue.

We are more than happy to provide guidance with this Opal icemaker. When it is past time to replace the filter, you may notice that your ice maker is no longer making ice. You may also notice the 'Add Water' notification, even though you have water in the reservoir or side tank. If either of these things occurs, replace the scale inhibiting filter with a new Opal Replacement Water Filter (P4INKFILTR).

Inefficient too quick
on January 30, 2026

Even though it’s louder, that’s not really the complaint. The door drips water like a leaky faucet when it’s open to get ice. The ice just doesn’t hold up as long.

Great texture and size of ice cubes
on February 2, 2026
Posted by: faithwalker
Love the texture and size of ice cubes. The machine keeps up with our ice demand for the two of us. The machine is noisy enough when making ice that I can hear it from the bedroom in the middle of the night. The ice maker must not keep a freezing temperature - I'm guessing the ice cubes melt because the machine will randomly kick in and start making ice again even when we haven't used any for several hours (e.g., 4 am).
