Great ice, poor quality.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It makes great ice, but we are on our third ge profile opal.The first one lasted about 2 yrs, longer enough for the warranty to be out. The second one just over 6 months and it took a couple of months to get the warranty replacement after jumping thru hoops for several different case workers.Do this do that, try this, download this software now repeat all previous actions. Then get handed over to their supervisor to start over. Now the replacement is not working as it should and it is 3 months old, not pulling water from the side tank. Its cleaned every two weeks on schedule.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We want to help you with your Opal not getting water from the side tank. This is a sign that there are bubbles in the tube connecting the side tank to the Opal if the tube is not lying flat. Try adjusting the tube to allow the water to flow. Once water starts flowing, it will not need further adjusting.

Garbage Ice Machine

I don’t write reviews often, but after purchasing more than 3 of these Opal ice machines and always having the same squealing issues I would give this product a zero if possible. I purchased a water distilled just for this machine thinking maybe it’s our water, but the squeaking always occurs after the 1 year warranty is up. I would highly recommend looking at a different ice machine!

We'd like to give you some information regarding your Opal sounds. It is normal to hear your unit squeaking when Opal is in need of defrosting, it can start to squeak as ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and can take 10 to 45 minutes.
If your unit is squeaking outside of the defrosting process. We recommend calling our Opal team at 866-907-6718.

Cleaning light flashes all the time!

The cleaning light continually flashes and wont stop. Called the help desk and they informed me that it was a software glitch!

5 years great ice

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had our first Opal ice make for over five years of continuous use without any problems. Great ice every day. It was a bit squeaky for a few months in the beginning but that went away. We did clean it once a month which is a good amount of work but worth it. It finally quit working and we ordered a new one even though it probably could have been repaired. We are very happy with that purchase.

Quick ice, sleek design

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall, I’m quite pleased with this icemaker. It doesn’t occupy much counter space and makes ice relatively quickly. However, I wish it had a refrigeration system to keep the ice longer. This system essentially makes ice , but it immediately starts melting, creating a continuous cycle. I’ve set ours up on a timer through their app, so it only makes ice in the evenings and doesn’t run throughout the day. Maintenance can be a bit of a chore, and I wish there was a simpler system for that.

Expensive but doesn't last

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Started off good... 16 months later it started squealing as it made ice. Now at 18 months we woke up to water all over the counter. Thought maybe there was an issue with the hose but when I leaned it back over the sink to get the rest of the water out I watched water leak out of the body of the ice maker. Also the water tank design is poor, we only run filtered water in it and it always has deposits in the tank when cleaning and you have the smallest opening to try and clean it out.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Squealing Noise

I purchased 2 of these units January 2025. One for kitchen and one for downstairs of my home. If you YouTube this item, you'll undoubtedly see everyone has to deal with the squealing noise after only a few months. The ice is great, but the squealing noise is unbearable and even when you WD-40 - the squealing comes back over and over. If GE ever finds a long-term fix here, I'd jump on it - but I'm not sure this purchase was worth it.
