Love the ice but hate the squeaking noise it's making!!! We've only had it a few weeks. Very expensive noise maker.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

When your Opal is in need of defrosting, it may start to squeak as ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and may take 10 to 45 minutes. I LOVE this ice! After 3 back to back surgeries last year I developed a panic disorder. If my mouth or throat dries out or if I get too hot, it gives me some pretty wicked attacks. My kids and husband got this for me and an insulated drink thing and I just have this amazing ice with me all the time. I use filtered water either from my Berkey or Brita filter and the Opal turns it into the best ice EVER! It's durable enough that room temp liquid doesn't melt it away, but delicate enough that I can crunch it even without my dentures in. If you follow the cleaning instructions, the ice is clean, beautiful and tastes better than Sonic or Zaxby's nugget ice. And the Machine itself.. so beautiful! It's one of the most attractive things in my kitchen and keep in mind, I wanted this one for performance and product, not appearance. Most of the rest of the stuff in my kitchen was picked for appearance and the Opal os still prettier! You can also use it as a night light and when you have the light on, it's even prettier! Once again...I LOVE MY OPAL!

I absolutely positively love the Opal 2.0 i love 🧊 i use it all day every day of my life. The opal is easy to clean, even easier to use, tastes great, and I have no clue how I lived without it. You get soft chewable ice that tastes great and is always available without taking up all your freezer room. This device is the best and as long as GE makes it i will own it! Thank you GE you are the best!!!

My wife and daughter absolutely LOVE this ice machine because we can use pure water to make the ice instead of buying it from some restaurant knowing it would be contaminated then. And of course, happy wife, HAPPY LIFE!!!
