Loves this ice maker!

I love this nugget ice maker. I did a lot of research before purchasing and everything I read is true. It’s a great machine. Easy to setup. I had ice within 15 minutes and it’s very quiet. If you’re undecided, buy it! Make sure you get the side tank too.

Love this ice maker!!! Makes plenty of ice for our family of 5. Using distilled water definitely helps keep the cleaning to a minimum.

Not like our Opal 1, this ice is rock hard

Our original GE ice maker was the original Opal. It worked well until it didn't, making super loud noises like grinding and then squeals. To their credit, GE replaced it as it was under warranty and since the original Opal wasn't being made anymore, they sent us the Opal 2. Unfortunately, the ice is hard and not like the original Opal. The ice comes out shaped like the original Opal but it's hard like getting crushed ice out of a freezer. I don't think sending this one back would help. It's like the ice freezes way too hard, it even looks different than the original one we had.

We have had the ice maker for a month now. It’s been working great. We just did our first cleaning and it was pretty easy. It can be a bit loud at times when making ice however it’s not a deal breaker. Happy with our purchases.

Ice Melts Too Fast

Ice that is produced melts very quickly. Must remove ice very soon after it is made and put in freezer. It seems some cooling should have been added to the ice bin area so that it remains usable for at least 30 minutes to an hour.
