Love the ice.

Love the machine, but it begins to squeal after awhile. I mean a lot! I checked the GE support FAQS and found that this isn't unusual. So shut it down and restarted it. The noise begin again. My wife was driving me crazy about it. Sis a cleaning and it stopped, for awhile. So figured out a cleaning with water and Vinger would fix it until it wanted to be cleaned again. But other than that it works great.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Worth Every Penny

Super quiet, super fast, incredible machine. I honestly don't know how I lived without it. Setup was a breeze and cleaning is super easy. I use exclusively distilled water even though I don't live in a hard water area just to make sure I prolong the life of my Opal. It looks gorgeous on my counter and it starts making ice when it automatically senses that the drawer went down in volume. The dimmable light that shines into the drawer makes it stand out beautifully. Worth every penny!

Terrible experience

I read all the reviews and this seemed to be the one to buy. Received the machine, followed all the start up instructions. Even watched videos. Worked amazingly for first 24 hours. Then it started making a terrible squealing noise. Tried to reset and defrost. Worked fine for an hour and did the same thing. Figured I got a lemon. Returned and replaced. Second machine did the exact same thing in the same time frame. So disappointed. Do not recommend.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

When Opal is in need of defrosting, it may start to squeak as the ice starts to build up around the mechanisms which are completely normal. We would recommend taking a look at the article below for a list of normal noises associated with ice maker and their causes:

It stopped producing ice within the first week of purchase.too expensive not to work.

Love the ice, wish the machine lasted longer!

This is my second Opal. We love the ice but the machine is very noisy and both only last about 2 years before they start to slow down on the ice making. They get hot and start to get very finicky. I descale once a month and keep it in a well ventilated area. I will continue to buy the Opal because we love the ice. The next one I will be buying the extended warranty for sure!!!!!

Okay but disappointing

At first it was a great product but it does not even work now. It continues to say add water even after I have filled it. I have tried troubleshooting it and it has not work for over 2 weeks. I am so sad it was my mothers day gift for my first ever Mother’s Day and the one thing I was looking forward to after having my baby was the ice chips and now I don’t have them.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

So Much Ice!

I bought this ice maker for my dad for Father's Day because the built in ice maker in his refrigerator couldn't keep up. He LOVES it! I've never seen the guy drink so much water. The best part is that my kids can use it too. The setup was easy and it is low maintenance.
The only downside is that it isn't insulated at all so you have to run it all the time. The ice is slowly melting m, draining through the bottom of the tray into the water reservoir, and remaking fresh. So you can't make a batch and then turn the ice making feature off or all the ice will melt and you have to start over.

Amazing, soft ice

Easy enough to set up, however it took me a few tries to set up the app. There is a huge quality difference in the ice compared to getting it anywhere else. I use spring water in my ice maker, so the ice is even better. I love the ice so much I fill up a 40 oz mug at the begining of the day, and I chew on it throughout the day. In the summer heat its really such a treat, which is so odd to say about ice.
I would recommend this to a friend!
