I am so impressed with my opal ice maker! It's easy to set up, easy to use and with the smart HQ app I can turn it on form work and have fresh ice waiting for me when I get home! BEST purchase I have made in years should have got one a long time ago.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great when it's working

I was initially quite excited about this icemaker due to the many positive reviews across the web. However, I am now on my third machine due to the short life of each unit. These machines have consistently stopped working within a year. I follow the directions for cleaning, etc. I use the machine lightly and in spite of this, they all have stopped making ice within a year. The reason why I continue to replace them is because I purchase the extended warranty each time. For the price of this unit, this is unacceptable. There is clearly something wrong with the build of this machine.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Well worth the investment

This is probably the best invest for inside my home that we have made. I'm an ice eater and crushed is what I need. We constantly run out but not anymore. You would think that it would take forever for this little machine to make ice it absolutely does NOT. Within an hour maybe 2 I go from an empty container to full. The tank is a must and it lasts a while. I might refill it every other day or so. I've never been a fan of GE products but this might sway me over to more GE products. Even bigger benefit is the app. I don't have to be home to turn it on.

Great ice, but it has its drawbacks

The ice this GE Profile ice maker makes is fantastic. I'm impressed with the speed in making new ice, and how good it is at preventing the ice from melting. The problems though is that it will sometimes say "add water" but the side tank is completely full. I can't figure out why sometimes it draws the side tank water just fine and why other times it doesn't. It also occasionally makes an awful noise that requires me unplugging and re-plugging it from. Power to make it stop. I also don't understand why that would fix the noise for a time. It seems to happen every three days.
Not the most positive review. The ice is great, but I don't think the price is worth the flaws this guy comes with.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Deafeningly loud from the first week.

My Opal 1.0 was on its very last leg after almost two years so I decided to upgrade to the 2.0 I hoped would have less problems. Boy was I wrong, as soon as I threw the massive box away it started screeching so loud my toddlers complain. I’ll have to unplug it if anyone comes over as it’s absolutely embarrassing and loud enough you can barely talk over. GE was absolutely zero help when I opened a case within 30 days of purchase. Starting to wonder if picking up a bag or two a week of nugget ice would be easier at this point. I absolutely love the ice, but this ice maker is a very expensive piece of garbage.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I absolutely love this ice machine, makes perfect nugget ice within minutes. Easy to assemble, easy to clean, and is a stunning appliance on my counter. You cannot go wrong, I highly suggest the GE Opal Nugget Ice Maker.... Summer here I come a chillin'. Thank you for this great product.

Hate the icemaker, love the ice.

The icemaker makes great soft ice but intermittently makes an annoying noise. This is the third GE Profile Opal I've bought in the past four years and they all make the same annoying noise. Ge should have been able to solve this issue by now.
