SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN OPAL 1.0!!

So much better for ease of cleaning than the previous Opal 1.0. Makes wonderful ice. The engineers just need to rethink the side tank - can't clean it well. You can only put vinegar or bleach water in there to swish around to clean - any food related item needs to be able to be scrubbed with soap and water occasionally. The best way to prolong the time before there is slimy water residue built up is to use ONLY distilled water. We have done that and so far have not dealt with slimy water residue. But, I know it will eventually come...

I was sooo excited for this ice maker, I’d wanted one for years and my husband bought it for my birthday. It never worked, after reading reviews we decided to get a refund rather than replacement because so many people had problems, and I wasn’t confident it would work for more than 6 months to a year after getting a new one when I saw other experiences. For how expensive it is there shouldn’t be this many people having issues.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Very pleased with our purchase of the Opal 2.0. Make plenty of ice so we are never without. The only reason I gave it less and 5 stars is noise - approximately 43 dB at a distance of 15 feet, loud enough I will usually turn it off when we are watching TV in the next room. Check your clearance also, 16.5 inches from counter to upper cabinet was barely enough space for the location where I wanted to use it - if I push back any farther on the counter I won't be able to remove the side tank so, as is, the drip tray hangs about 1.5 inches over the edge of the counter (and you need the drip tray).

For a home ice maker this is probably the best one I’ve seen and owned. Me and my wife love having the good ice available whenever we want it. The machine looks good and appears well built. Having the side water tank is super convenient, worth the extra money, and keeps us from having to refill it every day. I didn’t give it a perfect score as there are a few things that could use improvement but overall I love the machine. My first complaint is it’s a little loud when making ice. Second I wish the ice container was bigger. Third clearing the cleaning alert is very annoying and cumbersome. Forth I wish there was a slot or better place to store the scoop. The scoop itself could be better made, maybe metal instead of plastic. And last the tray on the front is just a flimsy piece of plastic that constantly has visible sitting water in it. Having a tray similar to what you would see on a Keurig would be better so the water has some where to go and isn’t visible. A lot of these a nick picky but these are just my thoughts and what I’d like to see changed.

We love the pellet ice

The ice it makes is great. The machine is a bit noisy but not too distracting. The only thing we do not like about it is since there is no refrigeration the ice melts and recycles. We knew this when we bought it so it was no surprise. We make a batch of ice, put it in an ice bin in the freezer and only make ice when we run low. We must break up the ice for the first 45 minutes or so, in 15 minute intervals to keep the ice from sticking together in one big chunk. But, it works for us so we always have good pellet ice.
