I owned one of the original Opal machines, it ran for over 5 years before finally giving up the ghost. I wanted a new machine & saw that GE was now making them. There were many reviews with differing opinions…I just knew how much I loved my Opal & wanted to replace it. I have owned the GE nugget ice machine for 18 months & it has performed flawlessly. The new side tank reservoir is also a great & useful addition. Thanks for building a great machine!

Horrible noise. Great ice.

This machine makes great ice, but at the cost of your hearing (and sanity). machine started defrosting on the 1st cycle and says needs cleaning every other cycle, even though we use purified / distilled water. Btw, when the ice machine starts howling, better run. And don’t unplug it as you’ll lose the wifi setup and re-connection is a pain.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

However we would like you to know that Opal Ice Maker is a complex device that combines electrical and mechanical components such as a compressor, pump, motors and fans to deliver perfect nugget ice. These components power on at different times during the ice making cycle. There will be some noise associated with the running of these components. These normal noises typically cease after 10 to 45 minutes within the ice making cycle. We would recommend referring to this article for normal operating sounds for ice maker.

Amazing nugget ice maker

This ice maker is everything I wanted it to be. It produces ice quickly and keeps up with production, so I’ve not yet run out. I was worried about it being loud, but it is much quieter than expected.

I’ve read other people’s complaints about it being loud and it almost deterred me but I purchased this anyways and I’m glad I did!
Also it’s not THAT loud.
I highly recommend purchasing the variant I did that has the side tank to put water in so you’re not having to pull the tray out so much to pour water in it. So much more convenient to pull the side tank off and unscrew that cap and then fill that. The ice tastes great. I drink iced coffee multiple times daily and love it! (My dogs do too!) :)

Our favorite feature is the Voice Control, being able to control and make ice through Alexa is super convenient. You should definitely try it out.
