Hello, We appreciate you taking the time to contact us. We are glad you are loving your icemaker but are sorry about the noise. We were able to find in the use and care manual on page 13 that one of the normal sounds you may hear is when the opal is in need of defrosting it may squeak as the ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and may take up to 30-45 min. During this time, the front button wont respond. More frequent squeaking usually requires white vinegar cleaning to remove internal mineral scale build up. Great Ice! Machine could use some tweaks

Love the ice that this machine produces! Its small and easy to chew, perfect for any drink. The amount of ice produced is enough for about 4-5 dinner glasses which is plenty as a casual ice maker. I do think its necessary to have the side tank so you don't have to fill the small reservoir all the time. A small amount of water comes out every time you open the bin, which is mildly annoying, and I wish there was a built in hook for the shovel, otherwise takes up valuable space in the bin or you have to find your own inconvenient spot for it. Its an expensive, splurge small appliance but makes the wife very happy.

The ice is all that I hoped it would be. This is a quality machine. There are less expensive machines that claim to make similar ice, but this machine is stout and worth the extra cost. Easy to install.
