Was so happy to finally purchase this particular ice machine. My Son has one and I knew it was the one I wanted. This makes my beverages absolutely refreshing!

Fine until it died at 6 months.

The machine died while under warranty and GE won’t fix it since we don’t live in a major population center.

Extremely Noisy

It makes ice but goes into ‘defrost’ mode a couple of times a day and is very noisy. Sounds like a dog howling.

Thank you so much for providing your thoughts on this ice maker. we're glad to hear that you like the ice it makes, but do apologize to know that it makes a lot of noise and goes into defrosting a lot. Take a look at some troubleshooting advice below for the constant defrosting.
Your Opal Ice Maker Dispenser will defrost when it's needed. When your Opal needs defrosting, it may start to squeak as ice begins to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and usually takes about 10-20 minutes. This is normal operation.
What is not normal is if your Opal Ice Maker is going into Defrost mode too frequently (ex. every day), or goes into Defrost but there are no audible sounds indicating that the auger is frozen. If this happens, it's highly likely the air vents are blocked. If airflow is constricted, the machine will not produce ice normally.
How to correct:
Make sure there is a minimum of 3" inches clearance on the back and the sides of the unit to ensure proper airflow.
Check to ensure that the side tank is not blocking either of the side vents. It should be pulled forward, in line with the front of the ice maker.
Lastly, if the Opal Ice Maker Dispenser has the clearance it needs but is defrosting too often or stuck in Defrost for more than an hour, contact Opal Support at myopalservice.com 866-907-6718, M-F 8-8 EST.

We love our new ice maker. We have approximately 20-25 people who work in the office and it produces enough ice to keep everyone satisfied. We especially love that they are bite-sized nuggets!

Its working, I can hear it from any room in house

This is the loudest, squeakiest ice maker I have ever owned. The sound is akin to basketball shoes on a newly waxed floor. You know it is making ice, so if you do not have the app, no worries, you can hear it from any room in the house. I guess some ice makers are quiet and some are very loud. Very disappointing for the price. The ice is wonderful though.

Best ice ever!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS ICEMAKER!! I use purified water because our tap water tastes funny and it’s hard in our area. We’ve only had it a month, but it’s fast and great ice.

I love the "Good Ice"!!!

I was hesitant at first spending the money on this product. However,!!!!! GE has surpassed my expectations again!!!
I have read several bad reviews about this product. I have found if you follow the easy installation instructions all will be fine. I have not had any issues.
It is pretty quiet. A little heavy but I feel like that makes me feel like it is made well. Perfect ice.
I bought this mainly because my family is coming over for a few weeks and they go through all of my ice. Well, I fixed the issue. Now they will think I am sophisticated.
