SO FAR - EXCELLENT!

We've had 4 countertop icemakers over the past 4-5 years. They've all been disappointing as they had sporadic problem and eventually failed. Luckily, we had the extended warranty and they were replaced or our $$ was refunded. THIS GE however, has been a pleasant surprise! It makes ice at a pretty good pace, it's quiet and the side tank is a GREAT feature! You can easily see when it needs water and it's a snap to add! Once in a while it does "squeal" for a minute when it's drawing water from the tak, but that's very brief. Overall, this has been a great machine so far and I'd definitely buy it again!

Sounds that could wake the dead

We love the performance of the ice maker, but after using it only four days cannot accept the loud whining sound it makes, Last night we were awakened at 2 am by what is best described is a very loud sound that you hear when they open Dracula's coffin in a horror movie, but louder! We called the vendor to see if this is normal and were told they actually have the same unit and had to turn it off at night and move it into the pantry behind closed doors! That is ridiculous.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Overall very happy with the purchase. I like the option for timer to shut off in the night and turn on early in the morning. Cleaning is easy, very happy.
