Just what I was hoping for.

I have been looking forward to my Opal purchase for a long while and finally bit the bullet a few weeks ago. My husband and I spent about 2 hours unboxing, setting up and cleaning before our first use. It was not a hard process, just a bit tedious. I love the ice and using it to fill my water cup every morning and night. My husband likes it, but doesn't love it for mixed drinks as it does melt quickly. It is so nice looking and fits under our cabinets well. I'm definitely thankful we went for the upgraded side tank version. We only need to refill every few days or so. This is best for a small family and not large gatherings. I easily use half of the ice on a morning that I fill my large water cup and make iced coffee.

Love my nugget ice

I have always wanted a nugget ice maker. So when my ice maker in my freezer broke for second time I researched ice makers and this one had the best reviews. It cost way more than the others, but definitely worth it! I love that I can turn it on and off with my phone. Also love love love the water container connected to the side.

Ice Machine Needs Some Improvement

This machine makes great nugget ice. However, it runs ALL of the time. If it is in idle mode and I open the bin to take out one tiny ice cube, the machine will run hogging up electricity for another 45-60 mins to create a couple little cubes and top of the bin. Perhaps I'm not using the machine correctly, or need to set a schedule so it doesn't think it needs to make ice all of the time. I'll read up on that. At this price point though, I had much higher expectations for the machine working efficiently and frankly just creating ice faster. It's a beautiful sleek looking product on the countertop. The side tank is a great feature as well so you don't have to keep taking out the ice bin to refill more water frequently. It would also be nice if a little more insulation was included around the ice bin so ice would hold longer without melting. You can see ice melt from all sides and appear as though it is shrinking inside the ice bin as space results around the sides of the ice from melting.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

When ice is made it is intended to be used quickly. The unit operates on a constant cycle of making ice, that ice melting with time, the water draining off and then making ice again.
Opal nugget ice is made by scraping the ice flakes off the inside of a chilled stainless steel cylinder. The flakes are extruded through a round hole, compacting them into chewable nuggets similar to a snowball. When turned on, the Opal will begin to produce ice in 15-30 minutes. It will continue to make ice until the bin is full, or it runs out of water. To continue making ice, just add more water. If you have any questions in the future, please let us know.
