Great chewable ice

We bought the original Opal ice maker from 1st Build when they first came out. This new model, with the side tank, is much more convenient and a little bit quieter, too. We gave our olde unit to a friend.

This unit not only looks fabulous in the black Is stainless still it works like a dream! You can connect wirelessly to it with Wi-Fi and you can turn it on and off with the app on your phone. This will make your home look and act like a rock n roll star!!

This is our SECOND opal ice maker. It was too good to not have a second one. The ice is crunchy and just like “Sonic” ice. Looks great on the counter and the ice cranks out FAST. Definitely worth the price tag.

Great ice maker, but make horrible noise

The ice it makes is advertised. Soft enough to chew yet it won’t melt fast. No complaints about the ice making capability. However the machine makes noises during the defrost. Within two weeks of owning the machine, the noise during defrost has gotten much worse. Going to return this machine.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nothing lasts forever

My Opal is my favorite purchase of the last few years. We’re on our 2nd. The first one lasted like 5 years but we used it every day and never used distilled water. So the ice was softer but towards the end there was always sediment at the bottom of your glass when you used it. We bought a water distiller to go along with the new machine. And though the ice is a bit harder it’s still great. And if it lasts 5 years that’s Pennie’s a day considering we run it every day. Highly recommend.

We use the ice maker everyday with no issues. It makes plenty of ice for our needs. I highly recommend getting the additional water container. Without it, we would be constantly filling up the main container.
