Stop the noise

The ice is great but the noise is horrible. I have to shut the door in the room it is in because it make squealing and groaning noise.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We do expect the ice maker to make certain sounds during operation, which may also be amplified if the Opal is surrounded by hard surfaces like countertops and walls. Possible sounds made by the unit include buzzing, humming, squeaking, etc. If it might be useful for you, we do have a list of noises and what causes them on page 14 of the Use and Care manual, linked here: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-1000464-4.pdf .

THIS is the Ice Maker You Are Looking For

Great product. Makes the crunchiest nugget ice possible. Easy to setup and use. The side tank is worth it, for effortless long term ice making. Wifi capability is pretty pointless but it is just an ice maker.

Can’t wait to serve up the coldest drinks in the neighborhood for all our summer parties we have here in the desert! Fits perfectly on our countertop with an easy set up! Starts making ice immediately! Can’t go wrong with GE!

My husband was not interested in getting the ice maker but I knew he’d love it if we did. Well, he loves it and tells everyone about it! He even posted something about in on Facebook and so many people went out and bought one! A lot of people already had this model! Great addition to our beverage station!

Great machine makes great ice!

I love nugget ice and this machine makes it perfectly and quickly. The unit I got has the side reservoir and makes the footprint a little larger, but it makes it easy to fill with water. The machine is quiet and quick, can't ask for much more. It was an awesome birthday gift.
