Great ice

Excllent ice maker, perfect for our family use. Minor problem is that water leaks out whenever you get ice and the drip tray is not very good. Other than that, love it. Have only had it for a month, hoping that it's easy to clean and that it lasts a long time.
I would recommend this to a friend!

To keep your nugget ice tasting fresh and your Opal looking great, we recommend cleaning/sanitizing your Opal once per week. We offer some great care and cleaning tips for the Opal on page 7 through 9 of its owner's manual: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-1000464-4.pdf&_ga=2.177173603.7190747.1646663373-1156894598.1645713472.
Regarding the leak you mentioned, we encourage you to contact myopalservice.com, or 1-866-907-6718, M-F 8-8 EST for further guidance on this issue.

Fantastic except for the squeaking!

The ice is fantastic and it’s a great product, the only issue is that it squeaks when it makes ice. Very annoying so I only run it at night when we are sleeping. Other than that it’s great and I definitely recommend it!

It's really awesome to hear that your Opal is making fantastic ice for you and your family! We do apologize that it is squeaking during production. This would be annoying, you're right.
When the Opal is in need of defrosting, may start to squeak as ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic, and may take up to 30 to 45 minutes. During this time, the front button won’t respond. More frequent squeaking usually requires white vinegar cleaning to remove internal mineral scale buildup. NOPE!! Big disappointment

After 13 months it started making terrible noises. So bad that we couldn't keep it running most days. By 14 months it just died and apparently there is no way to replace parts or fix. Really disappointing as this was a gift to my husband and was not cheap.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
