The Opal ice maker does have some specific set up steps along with care and cleaning steps that need to be followed to prevent issues. Please take a look at pages 6-13 of the use and care manual, linked here: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-1000464-4.pdf - Also, please verify that none of the vents are being blocked, as this could impact performance.

Very disappointed

Unit will not keep the pump primed so it won't make ice. GE sent instructions on manually priming the pump which worked, but you have to do it every time which is not a good solution. My initial claim was within warranty, but now it's been 13 months and GE will no longer honor the warranty even though it has never worked properly. I'm giving it 3 stars because it does make great ice but the reliability is not good.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
