Love the Ice!

Every ice machine should make this kind of ice. Reminds me of drinks from Sonic Drive In. Makes a ton of ice and very easy to maintain. It’s on our Lagoon catamaran and fits great.

Sweet Summer Iced Tea

So excited for my new GE Opal 2.0 Ice Maker! Was purchasing all new GE Cafe' kitchen appliances and decided to throw in this ice maker that I had heard so much about. The Quickstart Guide was easy to follow and set up was simple. Mine started making ice in about 13 minutes. I know my family is going to enjoy this as much as I am with this first glass of Sweet Summer Iced Tea!

So, I have wanted one of these for some time. I have always liked chewing on ice, much to my parents' chagrin, and have a predilection for quality pellet ice - you know, the amazing ice you get at many restaurants. We also just got into making Tiki cocktails, and many of them use large amounts of ice to make the beverage super cold and enjoyable. So, it was time to make it happen, and I can report that this machine is amazing.
Not only does this machine make the ice I love, it allows me to use my phone to program a schedule for it to do so. It's great to keep energy use down to a minimum, so it only makes ice when we need it. I also like how the water from the ice as it melts goes into the reservoir, so we don't waste it. The machine doesn't have a "freezer" in the ice compartment, so the ice will melt if it's not consumed - I like that we aren't wasting energy with that, and we just focus on making fresh ice for relatively immediate use.
Super easy to clean and set up. Great product. Glad I finally got it!

I love to chew ice but I know it’s not the best on your teeth; however, this ice maker makes the ice very soft and perfect for chewing.

The ice this thing produces IS "The Good Ice". It is really worth the money if you are a ice cruncher like my wife and I. What would I change? When you pull out the tray to get ice water will ALWAYS drip on the drip tray in the front because the ice will slowly melt over time and the water is re-claimed by it running below the tray and gravity causing it to follow into the reservoir below. However there are always drops on the bottom of the ice compartment as a result that always fall on the drip tray. A redesign of the ice holding area with the floor put at an angle would probably solve this problem. It wouldn't stop me from buying another machine but it would make it so much better. Second issue, I wasn't able to get my phone's wifi to see the ice maker. Some of the settings they were asking me to change don't exist in Android 7 so I am thinking this is expecting android 9 or 10 at least. When I get my new phone I will try again. Connecting to the icemaker through wifi really isn't a big deal for me so it's not a huge problem.

Wonderful, chewable ice. We use filtered or distilled water in the machine, so our drinks always taste just like they were meant to taste! It is also the best size ice for making ice bags for icing injuries or sore muscles. Thanks GE!
